Project proposal
Project Proposal I have developed a style of drawing which allows me to be fully present in the moment whilst producing the piece, and for myself, can be used a tool for meditation and a process which pushes the limits of duration of meditation and focus. These drawing are produced by drawing a simple round, organic shape and then imitating the line, this process is repeated until the centre of the shape is filled with repeated lines. This process needs a very limited amount of attention on my part and it is this which allows my mind to focus and my attention to be in the present moment rather than being too concerned with the outcome of the drawing. The aesthetic style of the drawing is less important than the mental process I experience whilst making the piece. The visual aspect of this kind of drawing is representative of the duration of its making. I plan to make a drawing opver the course of 2 weeks, drawing in bursts of 10 minutes each time. The outcome of the drawing is completely time dependant. I cannot finish the drawing until either a) the drawing reaches the edge of the paper b) the pen runs out c) the 2 week period ends. The drawing will be hung in a gallery space.

Personal statement
Personal Statement
My practice fundamentally explores time and how we, as people, experience time. My initial interest in this stemmed from an interest in our inability to be present in everyday life. In my practice I explore the reasons why we have arrived at this point. In the initial stages of making, I go out into public spaces and attempt to be present in everyday life, and record and document everything I experience and encounter. The documentaion is made up of photographs, drawings, observations, writings, video, sound recordings etc and is all evidenced on my blog. This line of work has developed into 2 parts but are connected, through theory and theme. I have developed a style of drawing which allows me to be fully present in the moment whilst producing the piece, and for myself, can be used a tool for meditation and a process which pushes the limits of duration of meditation and focus. Through extensive research I have developed a project which Is mainly research based. The project is a study of  rhythm and beat perception, and the synchroniation of visual and auditory perceptions of rhythm and it's relation to time and also music theory. This then led to research of the psychology of the synchronisation phenomenon. What happens in our brains when we are experiencing sensory perception synchronisation. The idea to look into this came about when I saw a GIF on facebook of drake (a rapper) dancing, the GIF had been put alongside a number of different tracks and each one seemed to 'match' his dancing. I then took this idea further and experimented by looking at various different videos of dancers on youtube, muted the sound and played them alongside various songs, all of different genres, to try and decipher which genres of dance and music went well together and the experiemt left me with a huge list of possible matches. During this process, I also attempted to work out why there may or may not be a match. So many things must be taken into consideration such as tempo, style, volume and speed. when used together this combination of music and dance is the best way to access this perception synchronisation, as the best combination of two stimuli. The aim of this work is to provide the audience with a visual and auditory stimulus which are both in the same space.
