I saw this on Tiktok and thought it needed to be passed on. Pololū Valley is sacred land currently at risk of being developed into yet another "scenic tourist attraction" for profit. Activists like @/melemaikalanimakalapua on Tiktok are fighting to have this petition seen by as many people as possible in order to prevent the senseless destruction of this land.

Note that the petition says not to donate to change.org--donations to change.org do NOT protect Pololū Valley.

this blog turned 5 today—not very long as tumblr blogs go, but long for me, because 5 years ago I was fresh out of middle school, 14 and not-so-knowledgeable about things. and now I’ve finished my freshman year of college! still not-so-knowledgeable about things, but feeling very distant from that person I was. I still remember the exact moment I decided to make this blog, what I was doing. and it’s weird to think of all the places this blog has taken me, and all the lovely people I’ve met! don’t really use this blog anymore, and definitely not for its original purpose. still holds a special place in my heart though :)

I LOVE THIS FIC SO MUCH and I was laughing and swooning reading the last chapter and everyone should go read this fic rn!!! It’s the perfect combo of cute and funny and emotional and festive, it has amazing relationships and friendships, it has textfic sections and prose sections and it’s just so frickin good!

(Also, Sarah wrote me in as a side character in Chapter 7 so my love for this fic is automatically multiplied by a hundred times).

ANYWAY, I’m gonna go reread this whole fic again just because it’s that incredible!!!

Can you indulge me please, given the recent pandemic why is it that artist or fanfic writers are slowing down their works? I ask because personally I believe this makes it a better opportunity to work faster, as something to distract from the gloomy reality occurring.

I'll indulge you, but I'm afraid you won't like my answer very much.

The reason authors and artists aren't working their asses off MORE is because this is a pandemic, not a vacation.

It's not 'extra free time' for everyone.

For many it's 'my grandfather just died of COVID' time.

For many, it's 'I got laid off and am desperately trying to look for a way not to get evicted' time.

For many, it's 'I'm isolated from my friends, family and other sources of inspiration, I'm at home alone trying to deal with the world at large collapsing' time.

It's time to go out and protest for their rights. It's time to fall into a depression because they can't pay for medicine, because they're worried about a loved one with an immunodeficiency, because they have to decide whether to pay full tuition for taking classes online, which isn't as easy to learn from and feels like a rip-off.

I feel like this needs to be reiterated - fanfiction and fanart USUALLY doesn't pay. It's a hobby. Most fanfic authors aren't armcandy to a wealthy millionaire, and they can't just ignore other important life necessities in order to keep updating their 50k coffeeshop AU. It's not a viable career, and it will not keep you afloat. And while yes, many use it as an escape, many also can't write when they aren't safe, secure and know where their next paycheck is coming from.

So I'm not very surprised many creators are taking time away. They have lives, loved ones, other responsibilities, and at least one of those three is very likely a clusterfuck right now. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Be kind. Always assume everyone is doing their best. You never know what someone else might be going through.

i know everyone likes to pretend trans rights issues are universally similar, but trans rights issues in the uk are wildly different. fight on the context she is

mermaidsuk, which helps trans youth get help

albert kennedy trust, helps homeless lgbt people (the uk currently has one dedicated homeless shelter for lgbt people, and its in london)

all about trans, which is trying ensure trans people are better represented in the media

trans rights are human rights, and trans people in the uk deserve our voices heard as much as trans americans. jk rowling is not an anomaly, and represents the average british feminist. fighting against terfs requires systematic change, something british trans people not only cant do alone, but something we have to try and do as terfs actively lobby the government to take away our human rights (with there currently being talk of a bill which would cause under 18s to lose the ability to begin transitioning in any form, and a member of the house of lords currently waxing romantically about having trans rights removed in multiple areas)

you have to understand that talking to jk doesn't work. she doesnt care. use your time productively and spread these charities around. dont even reblog this post if you dont want to, make your own. just make it known that trans people in the uk are used to people acting like this, and soon we may not be able to do anything about them at all
