perceptions.
Tonight, I was asked by a group of 7 people to sing one opera aria, simply because I mentioned that I sing classically and practice every day. I swallowed my fear and insecurity for 2 and a half minutes and sang a quick O mio babbino caro sans acting because my knee caps were shaking so badly. My original perception was that this particular group would be not happy to hear something like classical singing, especially opera, and probably just say something along the lines of, “wow, that’s cool.”
I was BEGGED to sing 3 more songs.
They absolutely loved it (granted, they were all tipsy if not drunk – luckily I was 100% sober!) and were so impressed that that voice came out of mouth. And frankly, so was I. Or at least I was impressed that they could and did appreciate my talent and my passion.
I was quite blessed with this experience tonight, and further still my perspective and perception of people changes. I made it all up in my head that they would not like/appreciate/want to hear it. I’m glad I tried to change their minds about me… Or maybe I tried to change my mind about myself:)
