Final New Social Media

Favorite: TikTok. It’s so stupid that it’s great! At these crazy times everyone needs some brightness to their day, and whether it comes from someone’s brilliant creativity or laughing at someones video, it helps!

Least Favorite: Houseparty. Houseparty was fine before FaceTime and other apps added the group call features. Houseparty is laggy and glitchy, and apparently has some security issues. I prefer FaceTime or Whatsapp over Houseparty.

Phone Apps

My most used and favorite phone apps are defnitely Twitter, Instagram, and Whatsapp. Snapchat would be a close fourth. I have a love/hate relationship with Twitter. It can be very useful for keeping up to date on recent news and events, and also to take part to conversations, but at the same time it can be very exhausting because of the enormous amount of information, disinformation, bots, and useless and endless arguing between users.

Instagram is very fun app, because you can see what your friends and people you idolize are up to. The negative of this app is that everyone tries to look perfect and show the best side of their lives. That’s why I balance my Insta feed with some humor pages!

Whatsapp is what us Europeans use mainly for messaging. That’s because here data is unlimited but many times text messages cost extra, totally opposite than in the U.S. and to be honest I prefer it this way. Whatsapp has calling and videocalling features as well, so it’s very useful in many ways!

Only way I could see myself stopping using these apps would be some sort of security issue, if a lot of my personal information would be breached. This is why I try to be fairly careful on what I post on social media, but still a major data breach would make me consider the using of these apps.

I chose GetVideoBot, which is an app that has its own Twitter page. There’s a lot of stuff on Twitter, and sometimes you run into something you might want to download like a video clip or a gif. You can just mention GetVideoBot in the comments and that Bot will provide you with a link to download that video. Very useful! I would definitely recommend it to a friend.

Definitely Twitter. The microblog is such a powerful and quick tool to share news, but unfortunately also false information and fake news. In the modern world, where the flow of information is so overwhelming, having a critical lens to reading media should be a prerequisite to signing up for social media’s like Twitter.
