To help prepare you for this we’d like you to complete an NMP proposal over the summer break to bring back with you for discussion in a range of tutorials for Professional Contexts 3 during Semester 1.
Stage 01 - Part 1:
During the summer start gathering inspiration:
collect examples and links to other designers/ illustrators’ etc work
collect book and web references – build a bibliography
use something like a notebook, blog or Pinterest boards to organise this reference material. Note names, URLs etc as you collect.
Stage 01 - Part 2:
Think about your personal motivation as a designer/ illustrators etc – consider:
What do want to do after University?
What would knowledge or expertise do you want to develop from doing the NMP?
What skills and techniques do you want to focus upon or develop further during your NMP?
Who could be interested in your NMP project (intended clients, audiences, employers, collaborators etc)?
Stage 01 - Part 3:
Start capturing and noting down any initial ideas - these could be:
Ideas for your project brief itself
The formats and/or processes you want to explore/use
How ‘experimental ‘art school’ or ‘real world get a job’ you want your project to be (both approaches are fine!)
The Negotiated Major Project (NMP) is a large 40 x credit module which runs across the whole of Semester 2 in your final year.
The NMP is designed to allow you to bring together all your learning and accumulated skills and knowledge from the course via the proposal and undertaking of a self-directed programme of research, exploration and development of a significant major project.
