What I really love about this scene, is the fact that they both think the exact same thing, “I prefer to die, than hurt someone precious to me…”, is not just one of them, they both made the decision without thinking twice. All along since their first ecounter Gray has gotten to care for Juvia more than he would like to admit, and Juvia, of course, she loves him… but it’s something that goes way deeper than that, Gray is her hero, he showed her light when no one else did. And of course she’s afraid to die, she is not a fool, and that’s what I love about Juvia. Before stabbing herself she says “You have nothing to fear. Muster your courage and fortitude, Juvia!”… She’s scared, of course she is, she doesn’t want to die, and leave not only Gray but all Fairy Tail behind, she has made dear friends along the way, but despite that she knows what she has to do, they both know AND IT HURTS.
