Denver Zoo in Denver, CO
In 1896, an American black bear cub was given as a gift to the mayor. The cub was hard to manage, that is why the mayor gave it to the city park keeper, who eventually started a zoo with this animal. Years later, Denver Zoo now houses more than 4,000 types of animals, ranging from black rhinos and tigers to orangutans and kangaroos. This 80-acre facility is known as the first zoo in the United States to use natural zoo enclosures instead of cages with bars. The zoo continues to come up with innovative ways of connecting the guests to the different animals onsite. It offers guests with up-close animal encounter opportunities. If you are lucky enough, you can be one of the zoo's visitors who get to feed some of the chosen animals. Furthermore, the zoo boasts of having a number of exhibits you can visit to learn more about the animals.
