charlotte-roy:
There were some ‘awws’ in the background and soft laughter but Charlie couldn’t quite focus on any of that. She had wanted this for so long, had planned every detail in her head and yet nothing could have prepared her for this. She thought back on the day she got her letter. The day she waited for the clock to strike five so she could make her way to find her match. She didn’t know then what she’d say to him but it had to be something along the lines of ‘I hate this law just as much as you do.’ but those words never made it past her lips. Somehow, the law she had grown to hate so much, the one she believed had stripped her from ever getting what she wanted got her Nate. She looked down at her left ring finger, smiling at the sight of the gold band. Even that was perfect. He’d gotten everything right. It was like he was made for her and before she could say what she wanted to say, Nate had beat her to it and her eyes fell shut when his lips met hers.
“I present to you Mr. and Mrs. Roy…”
The minister closed the ceremony and Charlotte couldn’t quite keep up with everything. There were people moving towards the end of the hall to build a receiving line and the two of them waited. She gave his hand a squeeze, her heart racing as she looked up at Nate.
“I loved your playlist.” She whispered as the bridal party made their way out. “And I love all of this. And…” She asked Nate’s dad for the box and handed it to Nate. “These are for you. And you don’t have to read the list in the journal right now but the very last item states I’ll tell you at the altar one of the reasons I want to marry you…” She turned to face Nathan. “Because I love you.”
She couldn’t believe she was ever frightened to say that out loud and now that she had said it, she tip-toed to kiss her husband before whispering, “Congratulations, Mr. Roy. I’m going to make an honest man out of you.”
Tumblr media
Nate let the world move past him, feeling contently frozen there with with Charlotte by his side. If she was there, he’d take on just about anything. Weddings included.
He smiled, turning to face her out of a completely natural impulse. “You did?” He smiled, remembering the torment of putting that thing together. In addition to writing and recording his own song for her. He took the presents offered to him with a gracious smile, knowing that at the rate they were going, he was sure to get spoiled from it all.
Hearing her say those three words should have made him scared, it should have made him wince like it used to, but he simply smiled wider and accepted her kiss happily. “You already have made an honest man out me,” he said, “I love you too.”
He leaned down to kiss her again, finding that action might say his thoughts better than his words.

She nodded, tear stained cheeks now bright red. She loved his vows. They were perfect everything so far was more than she could ever ask for. The night could have ended there after exchanging their vows and it would have been more than amazing. “Ready.” She whispered in return watching Nate slip her band onto her ring finger. Rachel handed her Nate’s ring and she smiled, gaze flickering up to meet his. “I’m so nervous.” She giggled softly, placing the ring onto his finger.
The minister smiled, rocking himself back and forth. “Good choice.” And chuckled before getting everyone to their feet. “Very well, lovebirds. Charlie, Nate…. By the power vested in me by the State of New York, I now pronounce you husband and wife. Nate, you may now kiss your bride.”
“Yeah, Nate. Thought he’d never ask…” Charlie grinned widely and waited for her now husband to seal the deal.
Tumblr media
Nate smiled, he hadn’t stopped smiling the whole time. Sliding the ring on to Charlie’s finger slowly, savoring each second of the moment. Then she got his ring and he had to take a second to gawk at it. His first thought was of how cool it looked, and the how lucky he was to have Charlotte. He would have been fine with a regular wedding band, but in typically Charlie fashion, she’d made him happier than he ever expected by the simplest thing.
He chuckled, feeling a little shy about the kiss, but then he looked at his soon-to-be wife and felt fear wash away from him. “I love you,” he mumbled, praying quick that Charlotte didn’t hear him and closing the distance between them so she wouldn’t have time to notice. Maybe it was too soon to say he knew what the future held, or that he was confident that he loved her and all of her, but he knew what he felt in that moment--and it was nothing shy of love. He held her close as he kissed her, drinking her in before the had to pull apart. He turned with a smile to see everyone standing and clapping. With one hand holding Charlie’s, he thrust his other hand in the hair and cheered, “we married!”
And something he thought he’d hate months ago, was now one of the happiest moments of his life.

The whole way up to the altar, Charlie thought about her kids with Nate and how they’d look back at these photographs probably laugh at their mother and father for taking so long to figure out what was right in front of them. One would argue that eight weeks wasn’t long at all and they’d probably be right but from the moment she had met Nate, the had embarked on their own timelines with their own rules. She never quite believed in love at first sight despite being such a romantic at heart but Charlie remembers laying her eyes on Nate and forgetting the rules she had wanted to set forward. Before Robert gave her away, she took the small velvet box that was put together with the rest of Nate’s gift and waved it. “Kinda need this.” And the crowd laughed again, easing her anxiety. She was never great in public–that’s why she had started going to open mics but at that moment, Charlie felt so free.
“You look …perfect.” She smiled, taking Nate’s hands and looking up at the minister as he spoke.
“Friends, we have joined here today to share with Charlotte Brewington  and Nathan Roy an important moment in their lives. Their time together, they have seen their love and understanding of each other grow and blossom and now they have decided to live out the rest of their lives as one.  I know a lot about Nathan, Robert is a good friend of the family but I’m now getting to know Charlie as she likes people to call her. When asked to perform this ceremony, I wanted to learn more as the couple together so I asked a few close friends and family. Rachel, the maid of honor tells me of the time Charlie got her wedding dress…which is missing in action, I see?”
Charlie laughed, her cheeks now bright red but her gaze on Nate the entire time.
“Rachel told me that when our bride Skyped Call her to show off her dress, there was a glimmer in her eye she had never seen before. And perhaps Charlie didn’t know it then but Rachel knew her best friend had found someone special. Robert tells me something about lights?”
Charlie smiled again and winked at Nate.
“Another Skype call. All you young kids. Nate called his dad to tell him he was bringing Charlie home and when asked to describe his first date with his bride, Nate used the word, ‘magical’. That’s when you knew Robert?” The minister addressed the patriarch with a smile. “I’d ask who supports this couple in their marriage but it looks like your bridal party agrees with us here. I understand you both have vows? Charlotte? Would you like to go first?”
She nodded, reading from memory  the small passage, sniffling in between words before her voice cracks. “… I give you my hand and my heart. As a sanctuary of warmth and peace. And pledge my love, devotion, faith and honor. As I join my life to yours” The minister then called upon Nate before preparing the rings.
Tumblr media
“Oh,” he flushed, “right.” It was weird to be doing this with an audience, but it was hard to even remember they were there in the first place when Charlotte was in front of him, smiling the beautiful way that she did.
He listened to the minister closely. He didn’t remember telling the man anything, but it seemed Rachel and his father had other plans. He wouldn’t have had it any other way though. There was a lot he couldn’t say with his own mouth, sometimes, it was just better to have other people give you that push. Nate smiled shyly as he went on, catching his father shooting the minister a thumbs-up before calling out: “I started saving for the wedding right at that moment. You can all thank me for the wine.” Nate laughed at his father, along with the rest of the crowd.
Then Charlie spoke, and the rest of the world faded out. He smiled, blinking fast to make sure he didn’t cry. He did anyway, but he didn’t have the time to care. “That was beautiful...” he whispered, then it was his turn and he paled. Vows, right. They were supposed to right those. Cursing in his head he decided to just speak from the heart and hoped it sounded good. “Lottie,” he started, “when I look into your eyes, I know exactly where I belong.” He smiled, quoting the poem she’d written him. “I promise to never forget that. I promise to live with you in honesty, and without fear of the future. I promise to speak my mind, I promise to listen to you as you speak yours. You have my heart, my hand, and now legally half of my stuff,” she grinned, “I can think of no better friend to be up here with. From this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health; I pledge myself to you.”
In that moment, there was nothing but him and Charlotte, standing together. When he received the ring, he held it gently, running his thumb over Charlotte’s ring finger. “Ready?” He whispered.

charlottebrewington:
She took Robert’s arm, grinning from ear to ear, unable to answer anything right away. “I….yes….?” She wiped her tears with the back of her hand. “I had no idea…hall? Everyone?” Who was everyone? She couldn’t breathe suddenly, her heart racing even faster than before as she followed Robert Roy into the museum. There were decorations everywhere and it caught her breath as the tears fell. “My dress…” She whispered even though truth be told, it wasn’t the most important thing on her mind. She handed Nate’s gift to her father-in-law, tears clouding her vision and she placed the veil on, already crying as it fell to her side, hands trembling as she brought the blusher over her face. Imagine the sight? Charlie in jeans, a white lace top and a cathedral veil.
She linked arms with Roy again, unable to contain her emotions and sniffled. “Thank you, dad.” She whispered before turning to walk into the hall. As soon as the doors opened, everyone stood and Charlie began recognizing everyone there, her smile pulling at her lips as her tears fell.  She was given a bouquet by Rachel and after she took in the hall including the bridal party dressed in the colors she had wanted, Charlie’s gaze fell on her fiance. “Oh my God…” She whispered, smiling brightly as she walked down aisle.
Once Charlie reached the altar, she stopped in front of Nate and Robert pulled the blushed over her. “I look a mess.” She whispered, her tears streaming down her face. “I can’t believe you did this…” She took Nate’s hand and she swore at that moment that she had never felt this way about anyone. “Let’s get married.”
“Those are the words I’ve been waiting to hear…” The minister spoke and everyone present chuckled. Charlie’s gaze however never left Nate’s. She absolutely adored him.
Tumblr media
Robert nodded, understanding Charlie’s confusion but wanting to get the wedding started as quick as he could. Lest his fingers freeze off. He held the gift as Charlie put on her veil, smiling at her. “You don’t need a dress,” he explained, as Charlie took his arm again and they walked. “When your kids look at these wedding photos, they’ll get a story. They’ll be proud of their jean-wearing mom.” He smiled, leading her through the museum. “Maybe they’ll want to wear jeans when they get married too.” Though he said it, he really hoped his grandchildren wouldn’t really. “I’m proud to be your dad.” He said before they entered the hall, when he handed Charlie off, the smile hadn’t left his face, even has his eyes watered.
Nate watched Charlie entered with a grin of his own. He’d been nervous that his plan wasn’t great, but once he saw Charlotte walking down, his fears faded. She might have been in jeans and a lace top, but she wasn’t any less beautiful to him. And he wasn’t any less happy to be marrying her now. “You look divine,” he said honestly, taking her hands. “Alright, Mr. Minister, we’re ready.”
And he was, from now until the day he died. Of that, he was sure.

Rob bounced around, he’d gladly stand in the cold for a couple of hours more for any of his kids, but it was just starting to get a little much for his aging body. Seeing Charlie’s car drive up, he lit up, walking as quickly as he could to the door. “Come on out, Charlie. You’re going to make your old man freeze?” He called out with a smile, walking over to the car door and leaning into the open window. “Blizzard’s bad, we should get to your wedding quick before we both freeze out ‘ere.” He glanced over to the driver and nodded, opening up the door for Charlie.
He offered his arm to her, looking at what she was wearing with an amused smile. “You didn’t think you’d be getting married at city hall, did you?” Though he would’ve liked to take credit for the whole thing, he knew it was all Nathan. “Come on, hall’s over that way, let me walk you in. Everyone’s waiting for you. Grab your veil and let’s go.” He was maybe a little excited...maybe a lot. Seeing both his kids get married so wonderfully made his heart sing, and let every worry he had about them rest easy.
Tumblr media
“You look beautiful by the way. You’re going to make one hell of a bride. Now come on and let’s go see my schmuck of a son.”
Vows- Nate & Charlie Roy
@nathan-roy
She was nervous. The make-up artist Rachel had hired already yelled at her for fussing and crying after reading Nate’s note and listening to his Mix CD. It was perfect, it was so…Nate and it was why she liked him so much. Manicured hands settled on top of the gift she had for him as she looked out the window of the ‘fancy’ car Nate had gotten for her.  “I’m getting married today.” She announced to the driver who simply chuckled. Maybe he could sense how nervous she was. She couldn’t quite help it. Charlie had been waiting for a moment like this since she was a little girl but never did she imagine it would be something like this. Smiling when she tapped her fingers against the side of her jeans, she couldn’t help but realize how much she liked Nate. Her dress was sitting somewhere in Trixie’s apartment along with her shoes and accessories she had once had her heart set on wearing. The only two things that sat beside was her mother’s veil and Robert Roy’s bracelet.
It was at that moment that Charlie was tempted to text her soon to be father-in-law and make sure everything was alright. Nate and Charlie knew a lot of people and City Hall would be packed but in the room while they exchanged vows, only a few people could attend and she imagined the patriarch along with Trixie, Liv, Mason, and Marcus making sure no one lost their head. The thought made her smile. She was truly surrounded by amazing people. Charlotte Brewington was blessed. The roads had been paved from the snow but the icy conditions made it terrifying to drive in and when she looked up and realized her driver had made a detour, she slid closer to the driver’s seat, hand resting on the separator. “Excuse me? City Hall is the other way…”
But he didn’t answer and she felt a growing, overwhelming sense of nerves in the pit of her stomach. “I can take the train from here! It’s okay!” She tried to think of things to do. Call Nate? Call Rachel? Jump out of the car? Text Mason? And as she gathered her thoughts, she looked out the window, brows furrowing when the car went down fifth avenue.
“Ma’am. You said you were getting married today. Well, you can’t do that without a fiance…”
Despite the cold, she lowered the window and her heart began to race. “What?”
That was when she spotted Robert Roy at the bottom of the stairs and her tears began to form.

left in a box for Charlotte labeled “don’t open until I tell you to! for before the wedding” - @charlottebrewington
Hey Lottie,
this may look a little weird but when’s the last time someone made a mix CD? underrated, I tell you. So, here’s some songs that make me think of you. You can listen to them while you get ready but I have one request...
Listen to the last song first. Just skip straight to the end, alright? Then you can listen to the rest if you want.

( @charlottebrewington ) The Mix CD Nate made for Charlie. LISTEN ON SPOTIFY OR YOUTUBE
tracklist: Never Seen Anything “Quite Like You” by The Script // Mess is Mine by Vance Joy // Call You Home by Kelvin Jones // The Girl I Haven’t Met by Nate Richert // I Like You by Ben Rector // Grow Old With Me by Tom Odell // You Make It Real by James Morrison // And I Love Her by Passenger // +1 more...
under the cut is the last song
[sounds of shuffling and guitar strumming. Nate clears his throat]
This thing is on right? Well, I guess I’ll find out when I’m done....
[pause]
I’m not sure how to start this, Lottie. I never thought I’d be doing something like this. But you wrote me that poem and I want to thank you for it, properly. Because I loved it, every second. They say the best works make you feel something, realize something...they make you think. Your poem did all that and I’m sorry I couldn’t say this sooner...I just hope it’s not a little too late to tell you that I like you. More than someone I’m forced to marry, more than a friend, more than whatever I said to you before. And.. I’m sorry. I’m so sorry I couldn’t get this out and if I ever made you feel bad I...I’m sorry...
[another pause]
I wrote you a song. I hope it says what I mean a little better.
[he starts playing the song]

To the brother I never had, every new holiday we get to spend in eachother’s lives is a gift to me. But that’s not to say you don’t deserve some real presents! As usual, I give you some of my homemade Christmas cupcakes, don’t forget to share. Also, and anti-theft backpack, you never know in school. A tall cutboard for your kitchen, so no more bending! Some adorable dog cufflinks that I’m hoping you wear at your wedding. A giftcard to staples because I know you can always use it, and since mugs are your thing, a floating one to add to your collection.
Wishing the best of Christmas to you and the Roys, lots of love -  Madi ❤️
