What is the hardest thing you had to do on the job? Usually doing something that is difficult requires sacrificing something that you desire. For some of us, that could cost us our time and money. But just because something is difficult to do, doesn’t mean it isn’t good for us. In fact, some of the most beneficial things in the world; dieting, exercise, education; are some of the most difficult…

The Challenge of Hospitality
Being Hospitable to people isn't always the easy thing to do, but it is what we are called to do. Check out this weeks new devo on, "The Challenge of Hospitality." Feel free to Comment, Share, Like!
When I think about the meaning of the word hospitality, the first person that comes to mind is Mother Teresa. Most of us know who Mother Teresa is; a Catholic nun, world renown missionary, and Nobel Peace Prize Winner. She gave food to the hungry, medicine to the sick, and took care of the poor. But the challenge of hospitality to those in need, isn’t just limited to those in “ministry,” but is…

Conquering Our Grudges
Hey All! New Weekly Devo on Narrow Road! How can we conquer our grudges in life? Check it out!
What’s the first thing that comes to mind when you hear the word, ‘Grudge”? Every time I hear the word, it makes my heart cringe. One definition that explains this word in a nutshell is a “persistent feeling of ill will towards someone.” When we carry a grudge, we constantly think about it  and it ends up becoming a part of our lives. Having a grudge is exhausting, Luke 13:10-12 gives us a great…

Sharing the Burden Part 2
Do you ever wish there were more hours in the day? Do you ever feel like no matter how hard you work you just can't seem to get everything done? Check out this weeks devotional on "Sharing the Burden".
Have you ever wished there were more hours in the day? Do you ever feel like no matter how hard you work you just can’t seem to get everything done? Last week we talked about the reasons why we keep the heavy burdens of life to ourselves. Whether it’s because we feel like we can’t trust other people, or we don’t want to be a burden to others, it doesn’t change the fact that we feel overwhelmed.…

Abuse is a serious thing, but how can we remember the goodness of God? All are welcome to read and share as we discover together just how much Jesus sacrificed for us.
What is the most painful thing you can remember in your life? It can be physical, emotional, or psychological. Abuse can be so destructive in our lives that it leaves emotional scars that can cause us to question God’s goodness. We start asking questions like: “If God was so good, why would he let this happen to me?” The last part of this series, “Does God Really Understand Me?”, isn’t a way to…

The Power of Obedience
The Power of Obedience
Have you ever felt like you were the only one that was willing to do something about a situation? Have you ever found yourself taking on a challenge that no one was willing to take? Sometimes God challenges us not just for the sake of our own good, but for the sake of those around us. 2 Samuel 6:9-12 tells us of a man who was willing to take on a role for the Lord that nobody was willing to take,…

Small Gifts for Big Purposes
Small Gifts for Big Purposes
Did you know that God loves left-handed people? The truth is, God loves everyone equally and infinitely, but makes us all unique in our own way. How? Because God has implanted special giftings into each and every one of us that define not only our personalities and traits, but also our purpose in what God created us to be. Sometimes we ask ourselves questions like: “What is my purpose?” and “What…

Jesus Cleanses the Temple Part 1 It's easy to look at the scene in Matthew 21:12-17 and conclude that Jesus was angry with people, and you'd be right, Jesus was angry, but who or what was he really angry about?

Jesus Heals Two Blind Men
We find this story in Matthew 20:29-34 where Jesus Miraculously heals two blind men sitting by the roadside outside the gates of Jericho. Its not a long read, just five verses, but this reading unpacks most certainly what we all go through today in our walks of faith. It also proves a point: That Jesus is more than just someone who “saved” us, He continues to be our Lord who saves us everyday with an abounding amount of grace and love.
I love this story because it points out two important points:
How much in need we are of Jesus
How we can Trust in the provision of Christ when we call upon His name
Just like the two blind men, we are afflicted by something that is crippling us. For the blind men it was their loss of sight, and for us, it could be something physical too. Or for most of us, it could be something spiritual, psychological, or emotional like fears and insecurities. Sometimes their are barriers and obstacles involving family, school, work, or even anxieties that bring us on the defensive. We end up reaching a point where we finally realize our insufficiency to provide for our own lives and our own needs, where we can’t do it all and we are eventually brought to our knees. Just like the blind men, we find it impossible to get up on our own. But where we see the shift in the plot of the text is when we read the middle of verse 30:
“...and when they heard that Jesus was passing by...”
We see earlier in verse 29 that a great crowd was following Jesus, why? Because Jesus did not come to condemn, but to save. Jesus was doing the impossible, healing paralytics, casting out demons, giving hope to the oppressed, eating in the homes of tax collectors and sinners. Jesus was a friend of sinners because he did not seek to justify the sin, but the sinner. So you could imagine that when these two blind men heard that the one who could do the impossible was near, they shouted in faith:
“Lord, have mercy on us Son of David!”
What do you think you would have done? What do you think you could do now? Just like the blind men, we have the opportunity to call on the one who saves, on our healer and provider. Even when others only look at your circumstances and shun you just like the blind men:
“The crowd rebuked them, telling them to be silent...”
The two blind men who were sitting by the roadside were most likely begging for money. They had lost there sight and in society, were considered the bottom of the totem pole. The people following Jesus must have thought, “Who do they think they are calling Jesus? A renown teacher and discipler like Him has nothing to do with a couple blind beggars.” Just like today we may have people, even maybe friends and family who look at our circumstances and shake their heads. Who say that you will never be good enough, or that you have no future, no promise in life. But the blind men did not let the crowd dictate their opportunity:
“...but they cried out all the more, ‘Lord, have mercy on us, Son of David!”
Don’t let the crowd around you dictate your opportunity to come to Jesus. Come as you are, even undignified, call upon the name of Jesus, the one who can provide what you need. Despite being outcasts in society, Jesus came to them as they were, just as Jesus calls us to come to Him as we are today. With our struggles and anxieties Jesus wants to meet you where you are at.
“And Jesus in pity touched their eyes, and immediately they recovered their sight and followed him.”
Through this, the blind men were able to use this testimony of faith and restoration to follow Jesus. Just as we should use our testimonies to remind us of God’s love for us and provision.
What is your testimony? How can you use it to trust in Jesus? How can you call on the name of Jesus in your struggles? Speak to Him as if you were speaking to a friend or loved one, open your heart to Him and He will restore you. Come as you are.
