My two cents on the CL/MTBD
Dear Kpop Community,
Honestly, there are two things wrong with this whole situation:
1. Cultural Appropriation - I'm looking at you YG.
2. The backlash - Muslim fans who want to kill CL/Teddy/YG...I'm looking at you.
The first thing that's wrong with this is the obvious cultural appropriation. Using a verse from sacred text for the form of entertainment is wrong. Using it cause you thought it was cool is horrible and not releasing a statement when a shit ton of people are upset is even worse. If it was a mistake let the world know, fix upcoming releases...just do something about it. If it's not...honestly apologize right away and go sit in a corner and think about the mess you just started. Am I personally offended by the inclusion of the verse?....I'm not Muslim so no, not really? Am I upset with how YG handled this and is handling this....yes...cause it sets this standard for other companies to do whatever the fuck they want without caring about international fans and their cultures and that's not okay.
The second thing and honestly the most disturbing...the backlash. I doubt your religion and your parents for that matter taught you to go screaming "go die" to someone, behind the facade of a username, who probably had no idea what she was singing or to someone who for the benefit of the doubt probably didn't know what he was adding to the song. Do they need to be educated and be more sensitive to other people's cultures when they aim to market themselves as global stars? Yes. But do you as a human being have the right to tell someone else to go kill themselves over a song? Yeah I'm going to say no on that one...
Honestly, you all have the right to be upset. I'm not Muslim and I'm upset but I'm not going to attack someone and tell them to commit suicide, go die or what not cause honestly that's worse than what could be a mistake, and even if it's not and they did it on purpose...which is NOT OKAY AT ALL...there is still no reason, I mean absolutely no reason, to go and tell someone to kill themselves. Let's all calm down and think of a proper way to deal with this without using violent threats. Cool?
Peace & Compassion (cause that's what my religion taught me),
