so IIIIII dunno if anyone else has pointed this out, but;
in rearrange (which miles & alex wrote), there’s the opening line, “I wanna make your smoke & kisses black and whiiiiiite,” and later, “colour in between the lines”
now back when I was a wee scrub and *mostly jokingly* thought #milexisreal, I always thought rearrange was about alex, or at least could be. now we look @ element of surprise, where alex says, “why colour in the lines if you’re just painting it black?” I didn’t know alex co-wrote rearrange, so now I realize that it could just be them recycling lyrics.
EXCEPT when you take into consideration the call-response aspect of the change. in rearrange, miles sings, “I wanna make it black & white, colour in between the lines,” but in element of surprise, alex counters, “why colour in the lines if you’re just painting it black?”
idk who wrote what or what ~meaning~ is supposed to be attached, but I think it’s interesting that two songs, five years apart, written by the same two people, one about being conflicted about loving someone and wanting them to make the first move, and another about–oh, being conflicted about loving someone and wanting them to make the first move–you know.

It’s that feeling when you hear your favorite song…that feeling whether you’re in a car or a party or alone at home in bed, and you hear the song and it hits you so strong…that’s sort of my favorite thing about music.

Is This It or Room On Fire? Half red haired Jules or half blonde haired Jules? Angles or Comedown Machine? Ask Me Anything or Automatic Stop? “No! Why?! Por que?!?” Or “free fucking parking man it’s all about the money”?
