Phantom Top 5: Earl Carpenter

1. OH REGRET. (Earl’s Phantom basically realizes he’s done wrong the SECOND Final Lair starts. There are several instances of him starting to apologize or trying to explain himself, but then Raoul will cut in or Christine will start saying something and he never gets a chance to undo the BS of his own devising. Until The Kiss.)

2. OH NO SHE FAINTED. (I’ve never seen a Phantom look more genuinely alarmed when Christine faints, he jostles her to try and wake her up, it’s adorable.)

3. ALL THE BEST PHANTOMS SMELL THEIR CHRISTINES. (Only Earl is Classy about it, he kind of…wafts her neck-smell at his face rather than just shoving his nose in her neck and taking a big whiff.)

4. DON’T LOOK AT ME I’M HIDEOUS. (Earl puts up his hand and ducks away from Christine a few times in the show, once during MOTN - over his deformed side, even though he’s wearing a mask like it’s a nervous tic. And once during Final Lair, post-Kiss over his normal side because IT’S IN HIS SOUL THAT THE TRUE DISTORTION LIES AND HE KNOWS IT.)

5. LOOKS LIKE A CINNAMON ROLL, IS ACTUALLY A CINNAMON ROLL. (You want a soft boi Erik who could actually have a chance with Christine? Earl’s your boy. He’s like…a fully formed person with a grasp of morality. Still makes bad choices! But he doesn’t *need* Christine to hold his hand and navigate him through the choppy waters of How to Human.)
