On the Road Again || JARLEY

TAGGING: Marley Rose & Jake Puckerman

DATE: A few days after graduation

LOCATION: On the road

NOTES: Jake & Marley begin their road trip after graduation and before Jake is off to basic.

Marley wasn't exactly thrilled about spending the next couple of weeks in a tiny little truck. It just didn't seem all that appealing to her, but since it was Jake she had to admit that she was excited. Not only was it time for them to spend some quality time together, but it was time for them to be together outside of Lima and the gangs. They would get to be a real couple in the world that they actually lived in. It was all enough to get her excited about taking this mini vacation with Jake, which is why Marley was beaming from ear to ear as her feet were propped up on the dash and she was humming along to the tunes playing on the radio.

Jake had gone through a mental checklist in his head to make sure they had everything for the trip. Even as they drove he worried if they had forgotten anything. This would be a few of their last free time together before he had to leave, and even though he wanted Marley with him in Hawaii, he wanted more for her. Jake looked over at her and smiled. "So, you excited?"

Marley fell quiet when she heard Jake speak. "Excited to be in a car for most of this trip? No. Excited to spend all of this time with you and see you freak out over going to Disney World? Absolutely." She said as she leaned over and kissed his cheek. "And relax babe. I can practically see the wheels in your head turning about this trip. We have everything that we need and if we forgot something, we'll buy it. You need to relax and enjoy every second of this trip before we're off to Hawaii and you're at basic and I get no time with you for weeks."

Jake gave her a small smile. "Yeah, I just want to spend as much time with you as I can." He told her as he reached her hand and gripped it. "You are gonna be loving these beaches and it'll get us set for the sand in Hawaii." Jake said as he focused on the road. "So, you gonna learn the hula when we get there?"

Marley squeezed his hand before bringing it up to her lips. "You say that now. Wait until we're on like hour 50 and we're ready to claw each others eyes out and will do just about anything to get away from each other." She teased with a wide grin. "I don't particularly care about the sand or the beaches. I care about all the ridiculously attractive guys I'm going to get to see on the beach. Hopefully that are shirtless." Marley commented with a giggle, choosing to ignore the topic of hula since it was dangerously too close to that of dance.

Jake rolled his eyes, "Um, are you forgetting the most ridiculously attractive guy sitting right next to you?" He asked with an arched brow before giving her a playful smile. "Oh and I packed plenty of aloe because we both know you will probably burn with our days on the beach and we might have to invest in it when we go to the island."

Marley "Oh right." She mumbled, feigning disgust before cracking a wide smile at him and nudging his shoulder. "I'm only teasing. The only ridiculously attractive guy I'm going to be looking at is my gorgeous fiance. Especially when he's shirtless on the beach. All the girls are going to be so jealous and I'm not even going to feel slightly jealous." She said before giving him a glare. "I want to be mad at you, but I can't because it's true. Anytime that you're at basic, I'll pretty much be on the beach.”

Jake "Mm, I don't know how I'm going to feel about guys staring at you, Marls." Jake teased. "And I'll be jealous that you get to spend you days at the beach while I work until I fall out of pure tiredness." He dramatically said. "Though at least I'll get to see your smiling face every day and that is a huge plus for me."

Marley grinned at Jake. "Well I will make sure that every time you see my smiling face, it will be extra smiley. Especially when you are extra tired and exhausted because I know you'll really need it. And hey, look at it this way. While you might be getting super tired and beat down, you'll be getting extra tough and strong which means that if you don't like the way a guy stares at me you can totally kick their butt."

Jake "I'm already super tough." He told her with a scoff. "I'll just learn how to kick ass better than I had been before. Because, let's face it, we were practically raised in a war zone. Lima isn't the safest place to be and I'm sure as hell happy to be out of there. I just hope the guys respect Jane and listen to her and I hope that it can get safe."

Marley "Hey." She started as she looked over at him. "None of that, alright? You're out Jake. I know you're concerned about your friends but you can't be because then it'll drive you crazy and you'll end up right back in Lima where we started. They'll be fine, probably even more than fine. It's time for all thoughts of the gang to disappear forever. Or at least during this vacation or else you're in trouble. Deal?"

Jake "Yeah, but with Sam on my side and Finn still running things with the Socs, it still won't change." Jake shifted in his seat and quickly became silent. "I just don't want my kid brother having to be exposed to it anymore than he has been. Maybe my mom and Phil will move, that would be the best thing for them all."

Marley "Jake." Marley said sternly before shifting in the truck to move closer to him to rest her chin on his shoulder and wrap her arms around one of his. "Elijah won't get involved. He's better than that and your mom won't let it happen after everything that you went through. Things will get better in Lima and this won't even be a problem in a few years because Jane is gonna do wonders. And if things don't change, maybe after your basic training is done and we're settled somewhere they can move out by us. Everything will be fine Jake." Marley promised before kissing his cheek.

Jake nodded his head. "And they can come and visit us whenever they want, I'll make sure of that." Jake smiled softly, he wished he didn't have to get involved in any of the Greaser stuff and he could only hope that Lima would get safe and soon, but that wasn't going to happen over night. There was just so much hate in that little town. "Well at least we are out of there now."

Marley nodded her head in agreement. "Of course. I want them to visit us all of the time. Besides, I really don't think that it'll take much convincing for your mom to come visit us in Hawaii." She commented with a giggle. "Right, we're out and we don't ever have to go back there if we don't want to. We are free and we are together so let's just enjoy that, okay?" Marley said before moving back to her seat and pulling out the map. "So where are we stopping tonight?"

Jake smirked. "Yeah, she'll be a seasoned flyer after we leave. But we can keep driving a little bit more until we hit that hotel that I marked, we'll get some sleep there and be on the road again before the sun gets up. We have a lot of ground to cover, Miss. Rose."

Marley smiled at him before shifting her gaze back down to the map, spotting the little town that Jake circled for their first stop. "Sounds good to me. Well, everything but being on the road again before the sun gets up. I might not be the greatest travel companion since I'll sleep away most of the morning in the truck because we both know that I'm not a morning person."

Jake "Rose, you can sleep all you want, because you are a beast when you are cranky." Jake chuckled and smirked. "I can totally carry you out to the truck so you won't even have to wake up." He sent her a wink. "See that, that's why I am suck an amazeballs boyfriend." Jake went on, then realizing that his stomach was growling. "We should get food first."

Marley gasped dramatically and instinctively reached out to slap his arm. "That is rude. I am not a beast when I'm cranky and the fact that you said that totally negates the whole being an amazing boyfriend Jake." She said, sending him a playful glare. "Maybe in protest, I'm not going to talk to you this whole trip. How about that?" Marley send him a smirk before falling silent for a few moments. "But I'll start after we eat cause I'm starving too."

Jake rolled his eyes. "Alright, you can give me the silent treatment all you want, Princess. But it'll be one boring trip for you." He teased before putting the stereo on and looking over at her when she spoke. Jake made a zipping motion on his mouth after she got done and gave her a playful smile. Jake finally found a fast food place and pulled into the drive-thru, his stomach was the one that was doing all the talking now.

Marley sent him a challenging smile and crossed her arms over her chest as a sign of protest. She stayed quiet as they continued their trek but as Jake pulled into the drive thru, Marley was stuck with a dilemma. One part of her wanted to be stubborn and take this seriously but she also knew that she couldn't go this whole trip without eating. Until she remembered that she just said she wouldn't talk to him specifically. With a grin, Marley leaned over Jake and spoke into the speaker to place her order before sending him a smirk as she moved back to her seat.

Jake raised his brow at her and smirked when she ordered. Jake, of course placed his own order in and payed for the food. He could keep playing this game, he was an expert in his book. He was pretty sure Marley would break, but he was sure he wouldn't, it wasn't long till he found the hotel they were staying at and parked the car in the lot.

Marley quietly munched on her food while Jake drove and navigated towards the hotel they were crashing at this evening. She would have said thanks, but that would of course break her silence and she knew that Jake knew she was thankful. For now, she wasn't caving. Once they pulled into the hotel, Marley climbed out of the truck and grabbed their overnight bags before following him into the hotel. She waited off to the side as Jake checked them in since he was the one to arrange this after all. The instant they made it to their room, Marley grinned before taking off for the bed.

Jake causally followed her in, sticking their bags by the door before slipping off his shirt as he went through his bag to find something to sleep in. He made sure he would go at it painstakingly slow, and once he found his pajama pants, he slowly made his way toward the bathroom. Jake didn't look at her once as he kept his eyes down at his phone with a smirk on his face

Marley rolled her eyes at Jake's antics and tried her hardest not to linger too long on his bare chest. Oh he was playing dirty and if he wanted to play that way, then two could play that game. Genuinely wanting to get a little more comfortable, she climbed off the bed and wandered over to their bags. Marley grabbed the shirt that Jake had just discarded and, with her back to him, peeled off her shirt and put his shirt on instead. After shimmying off her shorts, she crawled back into the bed and glanced at her own phone, peeking at him out of the corner of her eye to see if he even reacted.

Jake watched her out of the corner of his eye, his brow raising when she raised the stakes. With a simple laugh and a shrug of his shoulders, he went into the bathroom and started the shower. Sure what she was playing was making him want to open his mouth, but he wouldn't let her win even if a sly comment was on his lips.

Marley let out a small huff and gave a pat before making herself a little more comfortable in the bed while Jake went into the bathroom to shower. Normally she'd follow him or make some sort of comment about him needing to shower but she couldn't. Or rather, she wanted to win. Reaching over for the remote, Marley turned on the TV and settled on some romantic movie to watch before she fell asleep since they had to be up early. As she watched the TV, she played with her engagement ring before letting out a small yawn.

Jake made sure he took his time in the shower. When he was done, he climbed out and dried off before getting into his boxers. With a grin and an idea in his head, he came out of the bathroom and made himself comfortable on the bed next to Marley and began to drag his knuckles up and down her thigh. She said nothing about touching after all.

Marley tried to hide her smile when Jake emerged from the shower and made his way to the bed. She acted entranced into the movie until she felt his touch on her leg. Here he was trying to play dirty, or at least that was Marley's assumption. Sending him a soft glare, she grabbed his hand and placed it on his chest as she shook her head in his direction. She was (fake) angry with him and that meant none of that unless he wanted to ask for it. Instead she moved to curl against him with a small smile. It wasn't her fault that she slept better curled up with him.

Jake rolled his eyes at her antics before pressing his lips against her forehead before turning out the lights. He would need a lot of sleep before getting on the road again tomorrow. Jake rested his arm around her and sighed as he made himself comfortable before quickly texting his mom to tell her that they made it to the first motel safely.

Marley was admittedly a little disappointed that Jake seemed content at leaving things like that. She enjoyed when they were playful like this and was especially grateful to have the chance without constant looks of disapproval. Then again, they had a whole vacation to be like that. And they did have to be up pretty early the the next morning to continue their journey. When she felt Jake's arm around her, Marley smiled and closed her eyes as she started to drift to sleep. She wasn't even aware that she mumbled out an 'I love you' out of habit.

Jake gave a sly smirk when he heard her speak. "I so just won." He bragged out with a winning grin. Jake looked down at her as she nodded off, she could remember what he said in the morning an he didn't want to deal with an actually annoyed Marley. "I love you too." He whispered before turning off the lights and falling asleep.

Marley wanted nothing more than to sleep in longer in Jake's arms when she heard the alarm on his phone blasting through the silent hotel room. Letting out a rather loud, un-approving groan as she crawled out of Jake's grasp and shuffled into the bathroom to take a quick shower. Once she dried off and got dressed, Marley wandered back into the room to find Jake still resting in bed. Shaking her head, she sat on the edge of the bed and shook him a few times to get him up.

Jake squinted his eyes when the sunlight hit him and let out a groan when he realized that Marley was in the shower. It was going to be another long day of driving so he gave himself a few more minutes until he felt Marley sit on the bed. He gave a muffled few words as Marley shook him and finally shot his arms out and pulled her into his grasp. "Mornin' sunshine."

Marley let out a squeal when Jake reached out and pulled her next to him before bursting into a little fit of laughter, smiling when she heard him speak meaning that in her mind she had one. "Good morning to you too." She smiled with a grin before leaning in to place a sweet kiss on his lips but pulled away quickly. "We need to get back on the road Jake." Marley whispered against his lips before kissing him again quickly. "Come on lazy bones."

Jake "Mm, alright, alright." He grumbled before giving her a small smile and not moving. "You are such a morning person." He chuckled as he quickly kissed her again and waited another minute before finally getting out of bed and finding a tank top and shorts to wear for the hot day. "Once we hit the coast, the first thing we are getting is boardwalk lemonade."

Marley sat up and continued to give him a playful glare as he laid in bed with no indication of getting up soon. "I swear if you don't get out of this bed I am leaving you here to enjoy the vacation all by myself." She warned just as he started to move. "That's what I thought." Marley mumbled under her breath as she made sure he was starting to get dressed and made herself busy packing up their things. "Boardwalk lemonade and then the beach."

Jake made sure to double check to make sure they were packed and dragged their bags out to the car. "Alright, Princess, your carriage awaits." He called out as he started the truck to make sure the air was going. "Let's get a move on, the beach awaits us!"

Marley smiled and dropped off their keys to the room before following him to the truck. "You better watch it with the princess stuff or you'll get the silent treatment again and I don't think you want that." Marley warned with a playful glare before climbing into Jake's truck. "Yes, to the beach as soon as possible! I am ready to lounge on the beach and relax, and celebrate our engagement." She beamed before leaning over to kiss him.

Jake rolled his eyes and chuckled. "Yeah, yeah. I won last night, by the way so- I'm just saying." He said as he put his hands up and kissed her. "And we do have a lot to celebrate, our engagement and our future together. It's already starting to look pretty bright to me."

Marley "Woah, woah, woah! No! No! How do you figure that you won? Because I never said anything until you told me good morning. I'm pretty sure that means that I won Jake." She commented with a small huff before sticking her tongue out at him. "No matter what you say, I totally won." Marley stated before softening her expression. "Our future is going to be perfect because we're going to be together. I'm sure of it."
