There is a post going about Riordan creating an imprint and lots of people are mad at him because “Oh! His ghostwriter rumor makes sense now” and stuff like that I can’t remember really well right now, but no, Riordan realized some stories are not his to tell, because he is a white dude and he doesn’t know those cultures well and he is supporting other people who are actually qualified to write the stories because he knows representation is important and he wants kids to have their representation.

People complain his representation has issues because he is a white guy, and then he realizes he needs to let other people tell the stories, because they are not his to tell, he does something about it just to get people get mad at him for that.

Honestly who started the myth that “kids usually grow out of adhd” and why was this told to me my entire childhood? Because it’s bullshit, I didnt grow out of anything I just learned how to cope so well that my disability became almost unoticable, or watered down and re-labled as “forgetfullness,” “quirkiness,” and best of all “laziness & irrisponsibility.”

But because of that lie I spent, uh what, like 5 years in my teens and early twenties convinced that I Wasn’t Actually Disabled™ and blamed myself for everything my then untreated disability had caused. Also the implication that adhd is Just For Kids™ as though its a behavioral problem and not a legitimate neurodivergency.

So yeah, fuck that bullshit myth. Stop telling kids that their entire disability will magically vanish and they can Be Normal Some Day™ and start giving them the coping tools to deal with this disability not just in school, but in a work environment and in adulthood as well.
