Today I spoke at an amazing event where the Congolese women were celebrating International womens month . One of the things I shared with them was how I felt International womens month was not like mothers day . It may have similar criteria but it is not the same . This is my view .聽 Most people never forget聽about Mothers' Day. Weeks ahead all people remember the important date that is coming up. They buy presents for their mothers, they prepare special celebrations for that day with the family, they remember their mothers in heaven, they acknowledge aunts, sisters, grandmas , friends and relatives who have played significant roles in their lives. This is indeed fitting and must be appreciated . International Womens day however is mostly remembered and observed by women, women鈥檚 organisations and womens circles .聽Most people remember it is International Women鈥檚 Day that same day!聽 I find it very inappropriate when people make a joke out of International Women鈥檚 Day.聽 I haven't seen聽as many jokes聽聽about Mothers' Day as I have on IWD 聽. This shows the different perspectives people have towards Mothers' Day and Women鈥檚 Day. Mothers' Day is seen as one of the most important days of the year. For many IWD is just a joke and an excuse for women to complain. On IWD we not only celebrate our gender but we educate, advocate and recommend actions and laws that protect women and girls. We strike and stand up against women and girls abuse . We raise our Voices as one and stand for equal rights!

Nothing like a good shower!
So I did a planning activity with a few close persons of mine a couple of weeks ago and as part of the exercise I declared that the book of 2019 if I had to write one , pertaining to how I felt about my life ,would be called "Here we go again!" In the description of the book there wasn't much in terms of disasters or things that did not go as I expected but I felt I did not feel the year much. I did a lot but did not feel much! I am a do and feel person so the year for me was average in terms of feeling and especially feeling through experiences! And I realised as I did the planning activity that mhhhhh....2019 was just another year of many activities and some good achievements and hey I propelled my way through it ! As I fast forward to December 2020 I imagine the title "What a feeling!" I enjoyed my shower experience this morning. Felt the scrub and polish of my face and smelt the African infusion body exfoliation . It felt amazing to touch my slight scar on my left cheek and spend a bit of time on my hands , calves and feet. My silver peperred crown and edges got some beautiful coconut oil love. What a feeling !

Letting Go
I was inspired by a conversation yesterday . It led me to reflect about letting go of people and moving on. Influenced by my love for theatre I have always viewed the people in my life as seated in a huge 2 floor theatere and depending on the level or extent of relationship different people are seated at various places with varying views of my stage of life . Back to yesterday's conversation I have gladly done my seating arrangement for 2020 and because one person has moved themselves to the back row, I have space to move another up one place. It is well. Some people can be hard to love!

My Self
I remember in primary school a popular essay we often had to write was simply titled MYSELF. My love for writing can be traced back to such opportunities to put pencil to paper and boy I could write and write! I remember though, I used to describe my gender , age , place of birth and would detail where I grew up and who my family was. Fast forward to my later years, I realised I am much more than a description based on demographics and associations. I have come to know myself as a woman out to touch lives, one with a lot to say and impart to all who listen and experience the value of my salt and peppered advise in significant ways . I have learnt over the years that I can make a difference in other people's lives and that I love to see others succeed. When I describe myself today I include not just what I do but who I am at the core , what gives me joy and what my values are. I am Mabu , born of the soil of the motherland Africa and a proud Motswana . I value God, Family authenticity, truth and love . I don't compromise my integrity and my soul is ignited by the privilege to be part of this amazing journey of life with both its peaks and valleys. I have a lot to learn but I also have a lot to share ! My wisdom grows with the gray highlights of my hair! I love my salt and peppered crown!

Wow!
That's all I can say as I get to witness a new decade and celebrate the fact that it is my fifth one for me ! To be chosen is quite a special privilege and I don't take it for granted ! What I will be is eternally grateful for this privilege and continue to earn it as I journey through life! I am grateful for the dawn of a new day, for my breadth of life , for my life partner , best friend and husband, for my mother, my children ....my huge extended family and my friends who have become part of it ! Wow! So much to be thankful for !
