"She has the most beautiful face, vivacious, laughing eyes, upright in her posture, acute, most prudent, most wise, happy, pleaing and friendly". — The Ferrase chronicler Bernadino Zambotti, describing Lucrezia Borgia's arrival in Ferrara, 2, February, 1502.

the fact that i'm no longer the same age as the protagonists of novels and films i once connected to is so heartbreaking. there was a time when I looked forward to turning their age. i did. and i also outgrew them. i continue to age, but they don't; never will. the immortality of fiction is beautiful, but cruel.

get in bitches, we're surviving rock bottom no matter how much further we dig. one day we'll put down the shovel and climb out of this for good. we have to. as long as we're still alive there is hope.

Seasons and Elements (Fire), representing Spring and Summer. The central medallion in the panel that symbolizes air, features the king himself in the guise of Jupiter, holding a thunderbolt and a shield emblazoned with the head of the Gorgon Medusa and seated on a large eagle against a backdrop of billowing clouds. Various birds, insects, and wind instruments are rendered around this medallion, while a sunburst is shown above and Juno with peacock below. The closeness of the depiction of Louis XIV to an image of the king painted on the ceiling of the Hall of Mirrors at Versailles by Charles Le Brun in 1683 – 84 makes it likely that the designs for the main figures in the set of hangings were supplied by his workshop; however, they may be the work of painter François Bonnemer (1638 – 1689 ), who is known to have made cartoons after compositions by Le Brun. In 1685 Bonnemer provided designs for the embroidered seat covers of the benches and stools in the Hall of Mirrors at Versailles. The alentours, or decorative borders, full of delightful details, are believed to be by Jean Lemoyen le Lorrain, an artist little known today who worked in the circle of Le Brun.

château de versailles entryway courtyard, spring 2019
i was the very first person there that morning, and oh my word was it magical, and worth every minute of waiting.
[image description: the first photo is of the entryway courtyard at the palace of versailles. it’s a massive area of cobblestone, fenced off at the entrance with an ornate gold fence, gate, and statues. the light is cast at a near horizontal angle, created by the first light of morning. the second photo shows the facade of the palace, which is symmetrical, ornamented everywhere in gold and sculpture, with the building itself being primarily brick and stone. the third photo shows one of the huge statues along the fence of the courtyard, with depicts three people - two appear to be sitting adults eating various fruits, the third is a standing child with their back to the other two.]
