Good day fellow bloggers! I hope that everyone is doing well today! I am back (yet again) to inform and update all of you of where I am at with my passion project! Okay then, letโs get into it!
To start ย off this update, let me share another recreation Iโve done! (I always love sharing these lol)
(Inspiration Photo)
(My Recreation)
Okay, now that thatโs out of the way,ย letโs talk about where Iโm at with my reading for my project. Surprisingly enough, Iโve actually already finished my book! The novel I chose to read wasย โPutting Makeup On The Fat Boyโ, and it was awesome!!!! To give you a quick summary, it is about a sixteen year old boy, Carlos, going through a journey of self discovery about his sexuality, all the meanwhile, trying to land a job at the local Macyโs for the summer. It was really interesting for me to read this story. Itโs not often times when I get to read a book with a gay main character, thus I found myself able to easily relate to him more often than I do with a heterosexual protagonist.ย
Moving forward, I think Iโm going to start to read the second novel listed in my project proposal. It is titled:ย โClassic Beauty: the History of Makeupโ written byย Gabrielaย Hernandez. From first gaze, it looks like the book explains how makeup has played a role to lots of different people throughout history. Iโm excited to get into it!ย
The most important text relating to my project at this stage would most likely beย โClassic Beauty: the History of Makeupโ. The reason being, is thatย โPutting Makeup On The Fat Boyโ taught me about self expression and confidence, but I believe that it is important to do additional research into makeup and its history. I would like to educate myself with all of this knowledge about makeup therefore, I am well-versed on the subject on itโs past / present effects on society. Using this new novel moving forward will be helpful in also educating others. I am not too sure as of yet, but I think that it would be interesting if I used this novel as part of my TED talk, as part of a representation that I have done extensive research and that I actually do know what Iโm talking about when I present. That is my plan, but I am not too sure if that is what I am going to do quite yet.
As of now, Iย havenโt discovered any new resources. And as you can probably tell, the resources that Iโm using right now, are keeping me busy enough lol! I am definitely open for more resources, but I haven't necessarily been looking for more. If i were to discover more resources, I would be interested in finding a book that gives step by step tutorials of how to pout on makeup. The reasons are, not onlyย to increase my technique with a. makeup brush, but to also show me properly hoe to show other people. The reason that I would like to know how to show other people how to put on makeup is because in my magazine I would like to have a step by step tutorial showing how to do a really cool makeup look, as well as in my TED talk, I am thinking of filming aย โGet Ready With Meโ (if youโre not familiar, itโs when people talk to the viewers of the video while they film their application of makeup process). But I think it would be rally cool if I killed two birds with one stone, and talk about something important and related to my passion project, meanwhileย showing everyone step-by-step how to recreate the makeup look that I will be creating in the video. That would be so cool!!! Iโm getting excited just thinking about it!!! To find resources like these, I should firstly look around the world wide web and see if I can find any credible tutorials for me to follow. If there aren't any that satisfy me, my second best bet would be to go to somewhere like Shoppers Drug Mart and see if I am able to find any tutorials in the magazines there.
WOAH that was definitely a wordy update! Sorry about that lol! I am just really into exploring the makeup world. This project is genuinely growing me as a person, and Iโm very happy about it!
Before I go, I will leave yet another quote for you all!ย
โStep outside your comfort zone because that's the only way you're going to grow.โย
- ย Madeline Brewer
This quote sums up my blog posts so beautifully. I am growing because I am putting myself out there. There were many times during this process where I was a little outside of my comfort zone, but I ย genuinely think that I am better for it.
I hope that you all are. enjoying your day! If you have any questions about my process, just let me know in the comments below! BYEEEEE!!!!!

ANYWAYS thatโs all for today folks! Before I go, Iโl leave yโall with a quote.
โI think the only way for you to grow and evolve is to keep listening, keep moving forward, keep jumping in and trying to experience.โ
- Dianne Reeves
This quote is so important because we, as people need to constantly need to be trying to experience new, and exciting things in order for us to grow as people. I feel that same way with my makeup. I feel as if I should constantly be trying new things in order to become more confident in myself, and overall, a more well-rounded person.ย

Hey friends !!! Can I just say how happy I am to be back and updating everyone with whatโs been going on with my passion project so far?
To start, letโs talk about where Iโm at with communications with Mikey ( heโsย my community connection, in case you forgot ๐). We haveย been in contact through these past couple weeks, but not too much further in the discussion of makeup and the societal impacts that it has as where we were at in the last blog entry. Mikey and I have been talking about perhaps conducting an interview for my final podcast (possibly???). I guess it just all depends on our schedules and if it fits in well. If that could be possible, that would be so hecking cool for us! We all would be able to hear personal insights from someone who is well experienced in this topic.ย
Some successes that Iโve experienced so far in the community connection aspect of the passion project are things like being able to effectively, and easily communicate with Mikey. I am fortunate that I have a personal relationship with my community connection because of advantages like this. A big challenge that Iโve previously mentioned would be that both Mikey and I have different and often-times conflicting schedules, so if we were to plan something like recording an interview for my podcast, we would have to plan far in advance. What can I say, we are just both such busy guys!
ย My SMART goal has actually been doing very well! One benefit to choosing makeup as my passion project, is the fact that I am fortunate enough to be able to keep experimenting with my makeup not only to successfully accomplish my SMART goal, but I also have a lot of hecking fun applying makeup in the meantime. I mean, the makeup looks that Iโve been doing to accomplish this goal are so out there and dramatic, that I donโt think I wouldโve done such looks like this otherwise!ย
My next steps in regarding to these two components would be firstly, to take that extra step to plan a time and place for Mikey and I to sit down and record an interview for my podcast. And secondly, I would like to keep up the pace on recreating different makeup looks. I am really enjoying this aspect of the passion project! I want to see if there are like reallyย hard eyeshadow looks that I could try. I have noticed my technique slowly improving over time, and I am interested to see what I can do if I really apply myself. Only time will tell I suppose!
โChoose to focus your time, energy and conversation around people who inspire you, support you and help you to grow you into your happiest, strongest, wisest self.โ
- Karen Salmansohn
This quote means a lot because it relates very much to my journey through this passion project. I am surrounding myself with people that help me grow in this specific area in my life, and through doing that, I will โgrow into my happiest, strongest, wisest selfโ.
Okay thatโs it for now!!! Iโll catch yโall on the flip side!

๐๐๐๐๐ฆ๐ก ๐๐ค ๐ ๐๐ง๐๐ฃ๐ช๐ ๐๐ !!!
Hey kids !!! Itโs me, your friendly neighbourhood makeupman !!!
Welcome BACK to the blog. I have some things to catch yโall up on!ย
Okay, so Iโm just gonna jump right into it.ย I have something to admit. Iโm not too too far into my book yet! I am HOPING that my classmates are in the same boat as me. Iโve been reading, itโs just so difficult when thereโs so much else going on with my classes and everything! I know that thatโs a crappy excuse, but itโs the truth.ย
Iโve actually really been enjoying my first book so far! Itโs titledย โPutting makeup on the fat boyโ. Itโs a fiction novel that. follows a young boy in a search of self discovery and acceptance. A lot of it applies to me and can remind me of what I went through when I was younger. Itโs actually quite refreshing for me. Below is James Charles putting on makeup. He is a quite popular male makeup artist in mainstream media.
How I plan to adjust my reading schedule is to make a list of how many pages I would need to read in a day in order to complete my books in the time provided. I believe that this is an effective strategy because there is no ambiguity. I will know exactly what to do, when in order to accomplish my goals for this project.
The text that I found during my research that applies the best to this specific stage that Iโm in right now would actually have to be the novel I mentioned above. The reason that itโs so suitable for the stage that Iโm in right now is because I am still somewhat in the early stage of my Passion Project journey, and I am still working on the self confidence aspect of my personal goal for this project. I plan to use this novel as a source of pride when wearing makeup publicly. It helps me when knowing that if this younger boy can wear makeup so confidently publicly, then so can I.ย
As of right now, I havenโt uncovered any additional resources, but I hope that I can find more articles online about boys wearing makeup. It will definitely help me overall in the sense that I will have more content to work with in terms of inspiration and knowledge with this specific topic. I plan to access these resources by conducting further research into this topic. I just knowย that there are more boys out there that document wearing makeup publicly, I just need to find them.ย
Here is an interesting makeup related quote for yโall.
โConsider the fact that maybeโฆjust maybeโฆbeauty and worth arenโt found in a makeup bottle, or a salon-fresh hairstyle, or a fabulous outfit. Maybe our sparkle comes from somewhere deeper inside, somewhere so pure and authentic and REAL, it doesnโt need gloss or polish or glitter to shine.โ
โ Mandy Hale, The Single Woman: Life, Love, and a Dash of Sass
This quote really speaks to me. It talks of how we donโt need makeup to shine, and I agree with this. I feel as if though everyone has a beautiful shine within them, but if some people like to use makeup as a tool to help themselves show it, then that is just as alright as no makeup at all.ย
Well everyone, thatโs it for today !!! Take it easy, and Iโll talk to yโall later !!!

Hey kids !!! How is everyone ??? Boy oh boy, do I have some catching up to do with yโall.ย
Itโs been a couple days since my last post, and Iโve been missing you little sweeties !!! I wanna update you guys with whatโs been going on with my passion project so far...
My successes so far:
- I've successfully been in contact with my community connection!ย Weโve been messaging back and forth on Instagram about how society views boys wearing makeup. Itโs been really enlightening for me.
- Iโve also been working towards my goal of recreating 5 challenging makeup looks by the end of the semester! (Iโve successfully completed 2/5 so far!). Iโm really proud of the work that Iโve been doing so far.ย
My challenges so far:
- I need to toughen up. So far with the makeup look recreations, Iโve only ever done my makeup at home without leaving the house! UGHHHH. I only ever occasionally leave the house with dramatic makeup on, and Iโd really like to further work towards my personal goal and just sayย โheck itโ, and leave my house confidently with colourful eyeshadow on my eyes. Iโm not there quite yet, but Iโm sure that with continuing conversations with my community connection, Iโll eventually get to that point.ย
Speaking of Mikey, since being in contact with him over Instagram, Iโve been really learning a lot from him about self confidence and self empowerment in and out of makeup.ย Below is an example of some of the stuff that Mikey and I have been talking about...
What Mikey said stuck with me. Itโs so true that sometimes people canโt stand to see when other people step out of what they see as a certain role that fits in their specific societal view. An example would be a boy wearing makeup. It messing with their societal constructs, thus itย confuses the person.
To continue further, as mentioned above, Iโve been working towards my SMART goal of completing 5 challenging makeup looks by the end of the semester. So far, Iโve completed 2 out of the 5 total looks. Here is another one of my makeup recreations!ย
As you can see, Iย havenโt completely perfected my technique when doing intricate designs like the stars on my face, but I tried my best !!! Thus, my next steps are to keep practicing and trying new things with each makeup look. I feel as if I am slightly improving with each makeup recreation that I do. I canโt wait to show you what iโve done next !
Iโll leave you all with a quote fromย Shakira Ripoll,
โThere's no better makeup than confidenceโ
This is important to me because it reminds makeup users to not depend on the advantages of using makeup to cover what are considered imperfections on their face. What truly matters is what is on the inside. Confidence in yourself is key, but using makeup as a fun way to express yourself (in my opinion) is the best way to use it.
Okay thatโs it. Bye!

letโsย ๐๐๐๐๐ฆ๐ก for lost time ...
Hey everyone !!! First off, Iโd like to publicly apologize for the pun in the title, but listen, if youโre following my blog, you have to expect stuff like this.
Iโm so glad to be back and to talk to yโall. I missed it a lot ๐ฉ
To start this lilโย chat, letโs talk about what youโve missed. Well, first of all, Iโve been in contact with my community connection !!! In case youโre not up to speed, lemme catch you up.ย The person that I have chosen as my community connection for my passion project is Michael Shannon. โMikeyโ is a local student, and is a pro in cosmetology.ย A few years ago, my Mother taught Mikey drama class at Stamford Collegiate, and Mikey and I have been friends ever since! Iโve been in contact withย Mikey through text, and he has agreed to guide me through not only how to properly put on makeup (and how to make it look good), but also how to wear it confidently, well-knowing that occasionally people will stare.ย
Here is a pic of Mikey from his instagram !!!
In the community connection part of the proposal, I had trouble deciding who I wanted to ask to be a part of my passion project! After doing some inconclusive research on possible candidates,ย I quickly realized that Mikey was the perfect person to ask! I was really excited to include him in my passion project and knowing him personally definitely made things all the easier. ย
Deciding my SMART goal for my passion project was a little more difficult for me than the community connection aspect. I had to choose a goal that was somewhat challenging, yet attainable. What I ended up deciding for my personal goal for this passion project is to recreate 5 challenging makeup looks that I find online, but on my own face. These makeup recreations will be eyeshadow mostly, and they will definitely be interesting! I have a little preview of the first recreation that Iโve done...ย
As you can see, I chose a pretty difficult makeup look to recreate, and honestly I think I did okay for my first attempt at it! I still have room to improve, but thatโs what part of my SMART goal is about; to improve my skills through practice and practice...
My next steps regarding these two components of my project are as follows;
1. I would like to keep in contact with Mikey, and to possibly interview him for my podcast aspect of my project / maybe my TED talk as well !!!
2. I would also like to continue recreating makeup looks in order to further improve my skills with makeup !
Thank you guys for checking in ! I hope youโre all doing well ๐
Iโll leave yโall with a quote from THE James Charles,
โUnleash your inner artistโ
- James Charles
This quote is so perfect when it comes to makeup, because it is such a powerful tool for so many people in which it gives them a chance to express themselves !!!
Stay tuned for my next blog post coming up soon !!!

๐ฅ๐ ๐ผโ๐พ๐๐, ๐ ๐ฃ ๐๐ ๐ฅ ๐ฅ๐ ๐ผโ๐พ๐๐...
hey kids, welcome to my ted talk.ย iโve been prompted to answer a very interesting question for you all. โshould grade 12 university level english be a requirement entry into all university programs?โ. well, should it ??? lemme know what you think in the comments after reading my post !
to start off, personally, iย think that it definitely should be a requirement ! why? well, in ontario, english is the primary official language. therefore, students that are growing up, and being taught in ontario should be able to efficiently communicate in the english language ! now, i understand that people donโt always grow up where they end up going to school. for example, iย couldโve moved to niagara falls from china last year and i didnโt know any english. in order for me to affectively succeed in ontario (in my opinion), i should have enough english linguistic skills to be able to pass grade 12 university level english, thus at least being able to communicate affectively in this community or if i wanted to be enrolled into a university the following year, the whole grade 12 university course would act like one giant linguistic proficiency test in the sense that if i pass, i am able to communicate at a high enough level to succeed in ontario. does that make sense ?ย and this theory also applies to people that are native english speakers. we all know that there are some people out there that have been speaking english their entire lives, but couldnโt tell you the difference between too / to / and two. yes shade.ย
an example of this is that next september, iโm going into french immersion nursing at university of ottawa, and they are having me take a french proficiency test to make sure that i am able to even succeed in this course if i take the offer. that is basically what grade 12 english does.
alright ! that pretty much sums up all my ideas ! please let me know what you guys think in the comments !ย
