Sometimes you are very stressed and you write fanfic about Effie Trinket inspired by watching Foreign Correspondent and wondering if countries outside Panem would be able to watch the Hunger Games

But Panem is now a country in the world. Panem was her whole world and now it’s just one country amongst 200. Panem is a cautionary tale people have been telling for over one hundred years. Anyway, she can read a room. And in this new room, she knows that she is considered an unconscionable, gilded fool.

i have been reading some hunger games fic (i know, surprise). here are some things i have read and loved and probably already read two or three times in the last eight weeks. to think, eight weeks ago i had neither read nor watched the hunger games and now i have done both of these things. anyway enjoy this descent into effie trinket et al also please read my fic

This is a glorious, lovely thing! I eagerly awaited its final installment. Moments of Effie's life before and after (and during) the rebellion. Delightful writing, absolutely wistful and visceral images, lovely and lyrical and just *fist clench*. I reread it again just writing this description.

okay actually this is one of many of mirixmoya's effie and/or haymitch stories and you should read all of them, but this is the one i have bookmarked and keep returning to. this fic is uncomfortable and brutal (compliment). i LOVE this haymitch. he is awkward and horrible and damaged because, who isn't? one thing i love about mirixmoya's fic is that it doesn't shy away from the yuckiness of Panem, the (probable) pimping of victors and escorts, the confusion, the beauty.

what you need to understand is that i'm obsessed with the stories that show effie before and after, and this is another one of those. i can't get enough of effie when she pulls haymitch's name from the bowl; effie when she realises what she has done and the tool that she is. this is much shorter, more focussed on the events of the books.

This is post-rebellion, and Haymitch is a perfect mess. I love post-rebellion fic where Haymitch and Effie have to come to terms with what kind of people they were beforehand.

Fics that you should read before Arthur comes back: clown edition

Now I know we might all be clowns, and that they're probably playing with us as usual, but honest to God I don't care. I am going to get my hopes up because I have been doing exactly that for the past lord knows how long. So better stay consistent, ok? Better remain true to the cause.

Now here are some post-canon fics that the writers should put into consideration if they know what's good for them.

1. These Ghosts Might Be Mine by @peaceheather. 68K, G.

The only thing I wrote in my bookmarks over this was that it's "the ending we deserved". Pretty sure that sums up exactly what I want to say. It's not just your ordinary time travel fix-it fic, but one that is done with such brilliance that it leaves you marvelling in awe at times. You must do yourself a favour and read for this author if you actually want to get a good understanding of the characters past canon.

2. Seo Gaestlufe/The Soul's Love series by flowerofnettles. 180K, T/E.

I know how hesitant some are when it comes to series, but listen. This one is simply not long enough from how GOOD it is! I rarely read wip fics, (it's now complete) but I genuinely loved living a journey with the author while it was being written, and I felt the amount of love and passion the author spent on it. What a creation, honestly. It's one of the very best out there.

3. I will turn your fear into a handful of dust by @regulusrules. 1K, G.

I am biased, ok? I want my own happy ending for them. I want to see them grow old and weary together. I want them alive. And if what it takes is a 1k drabble of them lying together by the sea, then I'll take it. I'll take it every single time you guys.

4. Albion's last bulwark by Saturne. 92K, E.

You know when there's a halo around a fic that you intensely remember a scene from but never the whole? And the scene alone is more than enough to remind you how good of a fic it is? Yeah. Yeah it's definitely the case here. I vividly feel its effect still. Absolutely planning on rereading soon because of how brilliant it was.

5. And like the cycle of the year, we begin again by @katherynefromphilly. 207K, M.

And lastly, the fandom requirement. The one that we will throw fists for if we don't see a scene or two from. As much as I am always more into canon deviations than accepting the idea of immortality and Arthur rising after millennia, this fic was definitely a pro in trying to make me less in denial. It certainly set the expectations high for any adaptation they might make now, and for good reason.

even if loki and mobius’s relationship isn’t, or never is romantic, i still love how important it is just for loki to have a friend. a real friend, someone who he feels comfortable casually touching and approaching when one or both of them is in a bad mood. someone who he can sit in comfortable silence with, someone who he knows how to read, someone who knows exactly how to read him in return. this is loki, who grew up alone and unwanted, who constantly competed with his brother because he never felt like he belonged, who learned how to close himself off from everyone else in the world. who learned how to be prickly, defensive, evil, because no one ever saw him as anything else. because he was told his birthright was to die as a child, and that he should be lucky he gets to beg for scraps at odin’s table.

this is loki, who’s never been friends with anyone who didn’t want something from him. who’s never been real friends with anyone at all. and for the first time, we get to see him just existing. comfortable with another person, laughing with another person, sharing his thoughts and feelings with another person like he hasn’t been alone for his entire life. and it’s really, really nice.
