Lakeside Union has Excellent Home School Flex Program
Home Flex builds competence, critical thinking, creativity, and communication in all learners. Home Flex is a part of Lakeside Union School District's commitment to academic excellence, a rich and varied curriculum, and innovative learning while focusing on our board goals of promoting academic achievement, socio-emotional well being, and physical environments that support student learning. Home Flex is an excellent option for students to be a part of our award winning school district when attending five full school days each week is not the ideal option for you.
Home Flex is not guided by bells, so students can create a schedule with our Home Flex teacher that will allow them to study at times that better fit their family's needs.
Parents and/or students come on campus for one on one learning appointments with the Home Flex teacher. Here questions are answered, projects are created, learning sequences are planned, and student progress is supported.
Students have the option of small group instructional and study groups two times a week with the Home Flex teacher.
Students can participate in a rich selection of academic courses at any of Lakeside Union School Districts school sites.

PLAY, Performing Lakeside Acting Youth, which was formed in 1999, is a theater program dedicated to the youth of Lakeside. Children dedicate evenings and weekends to producing and experiencing a full theatrical production. The teachers that direct this program volunteer to do all of this on their own time. PLAY only continues to be successful because of the many parent and teacher volunteers that donate the hundreds of hours necessary to keep this program going. LUSD WORLD LANGUAGE PROGRAMS
Modeled after the pioneering French immersion programs developed in Canada in the 1960s, the LUSD foreign language immersion programs are designed to enrich the education of native-English-speaking students by teaching them all of their academic subjects in a second language. The goal is for students to become proficient in the second language and develop increased cultural awareness while reaching a high level of academic achievement. Students develop proficiency in the second language by hearing and using it to learn all of their school subjects rather than by studying the language itself.
In foreign language immersion programs, the regular school curriculum is taught in the immersion language for at least half of the school day. In partial immersion programs, instructional time is divided equally between English and the immersion language throughout the elementary grades. In full immersion programs, teachers use no English at all in the early grades.
Full Immersion – Programs in which all or almost all subjects taught in the lower grades (K-2) are taught in the foreign language; instruction in English usually increases in the upper grades (3-6) to 20%-50%, depending on the program.
Partial Immersion – Programs in which up to 50% of subjects are taught in the foreign language; in some programs, the material taught in the foreign language is reinforced in English.
Two-Way Immersion – Programs that give equal emphasis to English and a non-English language and in which one to two thirds of the students are native speakers of the non-English language, with the remainder being native speakers of English.
