logic brain: jonny sims wrote the magnus archives as a horror anthology. because of this, the character arcs will likely be upsetting. however, it is disrespectful of his craft to ignore the genre of this story, and then be surprised or angry when it follows a horror narrative and has a horror-typical conclusion.

I love all the warm and humanizing things we’ve learned about Jon since s5 when he’s been at his most “monstrous”. I mean don’t get me wrong, he’s always been very human. But I mean the little details we’ve been given.

He likes carousels. He infodumps at people. He lied about his age at his work birthday party. He’s pretty damn affectionate according to all those Fabric Rustles, and is openly warm and loving and teasing towards his partner. It is STRONGLY implied that the thing that changed his mind about poetry was reading some written by his probable-developing-crush which shows such a wonderfully sappy and embarrassing side to him, even back in s2. And I just love that we’ve gotten to know such ordinary things about him, the actual person that he is outside of the lens of fear and desperation we’ve mostly seen him through. It’s sweet. He’s practically the (unwilling) god of the apocalyptic fearscape and he likes carousels and snuggling his boyfriend and it’s sweet.
