Grammar Productions - Forgotten Allies Preview - 2018 from Grammar Productions on Vimeo.
In the darkest hours of World War 2, thousands of men from Burma (now Myanmar) gave their lives fighting a brutal war for Britain against the Japanese, and to carry out the most successful guerrilla campaign of the war. But after the Allied victory, Burma sank into isolation, dictatorship and civil war, and Britain forgot the bravery of these men.
Now only a handful of veterans remain - will they get the recognition they deserve before it's too late? One determined band of Brits are in a battle against time to make sure they do.

Rituals: The 99 Names of God from yumna on Vimeo.
The 99 Names of God embraces the rhythmic rituals that have run alongside Islamic tradition throughout the centuries in this surreal and poetic short film. Piecing together old and new, I aimed to create dream-like imagery which breathes fresh air to a subject hardly seen in positive light. The importance of geometry, nature, spiritual connectivity, style, meditation, and feminine power in Islamic tradition is something modern media has failed to depict, and my goal was to revive these themes in a truly beautiful manner. Islam’s underlying inherent meditative, universal and spiritual value has been washed over by negative media representation and male-dominated dogmatic imposition. It is time we see new imagery dedicated to truly understanding a religion filled with mysticism and beauty, practiced by over 1.8 billion people around the world.

Trailer: The Sound Of Old Rooms (কক্ষ পথ) from Sandeep Ray on Vimeo.
“The film explores love - love of a young couple struggling to survive in a cramped old house and intellectual imbroglios; the love of a mother for a son with lofty ideas and a poor liver; commitment of the readers as their beloved poet goes through a creative block. The film manages to capture the spirit of Calcutta by focusing on the vicissitudes of one family,” - Nishtha Jain (director, Gulaabi Gang)
“This deeply moving film evokes an amazing intimacy and empathy with the poet, his family, publisher, students and teacher, as well as the lively addas and dark alleys of Kolkata — and is remarkable for the way in which it celebrates the ordinary.” — Meenakshi Shedde, DNAIndia.com
“There is never a moment when we feel that we are voyeurs or that the scenes are being manipulated for the camera.” — Roy Stafford, In The Picture * World Premiere: Pusan International Film Festival, 2011 * Dubai International Film Festival, 2011 * Sydney Film Festival June 2012 * Osians Cinefan Film Festival, New Delhi, August 2012 * Taiwan International Documentary Film Festival, October 2012 - Winner, Grand Prize, Asia Vision Section * Jihlava International Documentary Festival, Czech Republic, October 2012 * South Asia International Film Festival, NY, Oct 2012 * CPH: DOX Copenhagen International Documentary Festival Nov, 2012 * In Competition, Asia Pacific Screen Awards, November 2012 * Jean Rouch International Film Festival, Paris, November 2012 * Delhi International Film Festival Dec 2012 Iran Cinema-Verite Film Festival 2013
A RAY PICTURES Production Directed, Filmed and Edited by Sandeep Ray Narrated by Sarthak Roychowdhury Co‐Editor Subhadro Chowdhury In Bengali, w/English subtitles TRT: 72 mins. The Sound Of Old Rooms filmed over 20 years, traces the life of Sarthak, an Indian man who juggles his desire to be a poet with the practicalities of raising a family. As a college student he had time to drink with friends and discuss his writings; now with work commitments, he struggles to continue his dream. The crumbling home where he was raised and still lives with his nagging but affectionate mother, wife and young son is extremely cramped; he sleeps, as he has since a child, surrounded by books. Sarthak leads us through Kolkata's bars, apartments and alleyways as he tries to understand life and find meaning in his work. Global Sightseeing Tours: Shan State from Phyo Win Latt on Vimeo.
North of Burma?s central plains is the exotic and fascinating Shan State, a beautiful landscape in South East Asia located on the eastern side of Myanmar. Once 40 Shan monarchs ruled there but they lived in hostile times as Burmese kings and Chinese warlords fought against them to gain control of their fertile land.
We begin our journey at Inle Lake. The magical beauty of this body of water has attracted and fascinated people since time immemorial and this unique lake is home to the Intha people.
The next leg of the journey leads to a far more tranquil section of the lake that features floating gardens that are around a hundred metres long and two metres wide and consist of a densely interwoven carpet of water hyancinths.
Mandalay, ?The City of Art?, is located in the centre of Shan State. It was founded in 1857 and up until the British conquered it in 1885, it was the capital of the kingdom of Burma. The Mahamuni Pagoda is the centre of worship and is also where the Mahamuni Buddha is kept, the country?s most highly worshipped Buddha statue.
Around 12 kilometres beyond Hsipaw is the legendary Bagyo Pagoda. Surrounded by a magnificent wall, it is thought that the sanctuary is more than 700 years old. An important festival takes place each year around Tabaung, the time of the full moon in February and March, and is the highlight of the town?s cultural calendar.
The Shan people in the north of Myanmar have most certainly retained their cultural heritage and Shan State is an exotic combination of both nature and culture and a land of beauty and joie de vivre!
