Disclaimer.
First, I hope you like my recommendations if you’ve already watched them and enjoy them if you take some of them from here. My taste in films in really diverse, and I know that some people might find some of my recommendations silly, but I’m a believer in film being a versatile thing. A film doesn’t have to be about the philosophy of life and death to be good, I think a lighthearted rom-com that you watch over dinner and laugh at can be good as well, and each has its moment and its mood. I wanted this page to be inclusive of all that, and not a page designed for a film critic to praise my taste.
Second, I want to say that I’m not a perfect human being. You will notice while checking this out that I listed some films made by, or involving, assholes, like Roman Polanski and Woody Allen. That is because I wanted to be honest with you; if there is a film I truly enjoy and feel like it deserves to be on this list independently of its maker’s actions, I included it at the risk of people seeing me as “problematic” and thinking I support what those people did or condone it. HOWEVER I do not by any means condone their actions and did not support them with my money. I watched those films illegally (internet streaming sites) and therefore I didn’t give those people my money. That may involve a discourse about whether or not enjoying their work means I support them even though I didn’t pay them, but I think support is support: Since this is a business topic, “support” and “condoning” have to be material to mean something, and my enjoyment of their work is meaningless if they didn’t profit from it.
You will find a short version of this disclaimer on the post about each of those films: I wanted to offer you a choice. Do you want to not watch those films at all? Do you want to watch them without paying, like I did (and that should be easy, typing the name of the film + the words “watch online” to google should come up with dozens of results)? Or do you want to watch them and pay for them? It’s all up to you.
Thank you for understanding!

Maleficent
Angelina Jolie is perfect. Everything in that movie is amazing. It’s incredibly underrated. Would 100% recommend.

Pirates of the Caribbean Series
Again, another one with a controversy. The Amber Heard/Johnny Depp situation is pretty well-known. In case you don’t know: Heard, Depp’s wife, is suing him and has filed for divorce because he allegedly hit her. I completely believe her, and I think it’s disgusting that everyone is quick to believe the accused rather than the accuser, especially because he’s a powerful, rich, well loved actor. However, I used to love and enjoy those movies before this whole situation came into light (which only happened very recently; last month, I think) and I felt that they’re still very enjoyable and I wanted to give you a choice: You can watch them on the internet without paying money and therefore not endorsing Depp, watch them legally and endorse him/because you don’t think that would be endorsing him, or you can choose not to watch them at all. Up to you.
The series itself is absolutely fun. Keira Knightley is unbelievably beautiful. My favorites are the third and first, the second is okay, and the fourth is my least favorite.
No nudity, crude language or implied violence. 7.4/10

Snow White and the Huntsman
I haven’t watched the second one yet and don’t know when I will, but the first one is definitely okay. I loved the scenery, the CGI is nice, the grim take on the story... I overall like it and recommend it.
Mild violence, no nudity or crude language. TW for rape implications. 7.0/10

Star Wars Saga
Another absolute must if you’re into fantasy. Of course I recommend the main trilogy first and foremost, but from the prequel I love Revenge of the Sith (unpopular opinion: I don’t think Hayden Christensen deserves all the hate he gets) and the sequel trilogy has been described as “main trilogy wank” by some but I find it good.
Nothing potentially problematic, 7.7/10

The Harry Potter Series
Okay, here I am recommending Harry Potter. Look, J.K. Rowling has been smoking something lately and the results are shit, you should completely ignore anything that she released after The Deathly Hallows was finished, but it’s Intro to Fantasy. It’s flawed as fuck, and lacking of some things, but it can’t be ignored.
Nothing potentially problematic, 7.4/10.

Despicable Me
Look, I know you fucking hate the minions. But also this film is so funny and adorable. If you can get past the annoying minions, this will be for you (especially the first one... the second isn’t bad, but not on the same level).
Nothing potentially problematic, 7.6/10.

Howl’s Moving Castle
Okay, look, I’m absolutely in love with this movie. I don’t mean I just think it’s well made and has a beautiful story, I mean I have a deep emotional connection to it. And yet I don’t think I’m biased when I recommend it to you because objectively, it is very, very good.
Nothing potentially problematic, 8.4/10.

Spirited Away
Watched it after I fell in love with Howl’s Moving Castle (more on that later) and decided to explore more Studio Ghibli. It’s amazing and deserves all of its hype. I recommend this as an Intro to Studio Ghibli.
Nothing potentially problematic, 7.7/10.

Coraline
This is one of my overall favorites. This film is terrifying, creative, and simply breathtaking. You’ll find yourself humming its theme music soon after watching a couple of time (and I promise, if you watch it once, you’ll want to rewatch).
Nothing potentially problematic, 8.1/10.

Brave
Okay, this one is amazing. I feel like this for me, among the three “new style” Disney princess movies (this, Tangled and Frozen) this one wins. Everything about it is simply amazing.

I was, like everyone else, obsessed with this when it first came out. I still love it and always will. I recommend it for viewing with family and friends.

The animation is amazing, this one revolutionized Disney’s style. It’s also probably the funniest Disney film.

The Little Mermaid
Many people have problems with this one and so do I now that I’m a grown ass woman, but I’m just nostalgic, okay? This was my favorite disney film as a child. And if you can handle Classic Disney’s sexism before they sort of revolutionized things, you’ll love this.
No nudity, crude language or violence (of course lol), 7.3/10.
