Ficlet prompt from anon: Castle and Beckett tell Lily that she's going to have two little brothers
“So,” Lily glances up at her parents, who are seated on either side of her, “will you tell me what we’re celebrating now?”
Castle and Kate both chuckle. They’d told Lily they were taking a trip to the Hamptons for the weekend to celebrate something, but said they wouldn’t tell her what until they were up here. When she asked why, they simply said they anticipation would be exciting. Now they’d arrived, changed into swimsuits, and enjoyed a picnic on the beach behind their house.
“Sure,” Castle meets Kate’s gaze. “I think the time is right,”
“I agree,” she smiles. “Lily,” she drapes an arm across her daughter’s shoulders and hugs her closer to her, “remember how Daddy and I told you that you were going to be a big sister?”
“Like Alexis is my big sister!” she grins widely.
“Exactly,” Castle replies. “Well, yesterday Mommy went to the doctor to find out if you were going to have a little brother or a sister.”
“She did?” Lily’s eyes grow wide. “The doctor can tell?”
“With a special kind of camera, yes,” Kate nods.
“So what did the doctor say?” Lily is nearly shaking with her desire to know.
“She told me two things,” Kate laughs lightly at her unintended pun.
“What things?” Lily pleads.
“You’re going to have not just one little brother, but two of them,” Kate finally finishes explaining.
Lily’s mouth drops open. Kate and Castle watch her for a few seconds, then look at each other with concern. Their daughter has never been one for speechlessness, so they aren’t sure how she’s taking the news.
Castle gently puts a hand on Lily’s back. “What do you think about that, sweetheart?”
“I…think,” she looks up at him, “I think that’s the best news I’ve ever heard!” a wide smile spreads across her face as she turns to Kate. “You can have two babies at a time?”
“Yes,” she laughs. “Sometimes mommies have more than one baby at a time.”
“This is awesome!” Lily exclaims. “Do I get them both at the same time?”
“Yeah, you do,” Kate replies for simplicity.
“This is the best day ever,” Lily puts her arms out as far as she can, trying to hug each of her parents, so they lean in and hug her. “I can’t wait for them to get here!”
“Neither can we, sweetheart,” Castle tightens his hold on his daughter and reaches his other arm around Kate, pulling them both to him in a big group hug.
“Mmm,” Kate sighs happily. “Lily is right. Best day ever.”
