He was mercilessly bullied by his elder brothers, Taniel and Micah, until in his 14th year his wild magic violently erupted, freezing the room they were in. Taniel, the heir, attempted to run, and slipped, hitting his head on a table.

It was almost the death of both of them.

The prince continued to be ostracized by his brothers for the next few years. Micah even hired an assassin, the plot was foiled and Micah executed.

A year later he would abdicate after an altercation with Taniel. Released from the geas, Jace’s hair would grow silvery white, like the snow he summons.

Jace died of pain. It was only for a few moments, but it was long enough to see his psychopomp. Curled up under rubble, watching his blood flow from self inflicted wounds, drowning in pain. Being held in warm arms and having his hair stroked as his heart slowed and stopped.

There’s alot of ways to interpret “God of Pain” but the truth of the matter is he’s extremely empathic. He soothes, he comforts, he offers forgetfulness, oblivion or vengance as needed. He is the god of revenge after all.

He doesn’t answer the prayers of sadists, but their victims. And its not the victim’s soul he keeps as payment, not normally, but their abuser.

And to those who choke and drown in their own sorrow and pain, he holds, he comforts as their life slips away, and gives them a very special gift, oblivion, so they never suffer again.

Definitely not a relationship issue. Nerri doesn’t get angry at Valnar for that sort of thing.
