3.4.1 Weeks 3–4 Project: Create an eLearning Module
6/26/2007-7/31/2017
INTRODUCTION
For this project, you will design an interactive eLearning module based on the infographic you created in Week Two of this course. Your finished project for this course will be an interactive Keynote presentation with audio narration that you will share with your classmates. You will evaluate each other’s projects based on what you have learned in this course about visual and verbal communication and giving and receiving design critiques.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
1.0 Develop a functional interactive presentation using the principles of typography and layout design
2.0 Craft effective instructional narration to accompany a visual presentation
3.0 Give, receive, and implement constructive criticism
Target Audience:Middle-High School Science Students
Joshua Vicznesky (Rough Draft) Task 1
I am new to keynote. So, I used most of my time getting used to the program and solidifying the layout. I maintained balance between the infographic and the presentation by using the same color scheme and visuals. I chose the close-up of the wind propeller as the title shot because it greatly resembled the Kineteco logo. I reinforced the look with a similar wide shot of multiple propellers as a background shot for the credits page. I chose to display the BTU’s as a pie chart as I felt it read better on a landscape format. I would like to bring the presentation to the next level with animated features. I want to animate the wind and solar graphs to rise to their peaks to emphasize the data assisted by narration. I would also like to animate a traditional scrolling credits screen.

Hello Joshua,Here's my review for your first draft.
Reflect:
I liked how you made the Renewable Energy Generation in the United States into a pie chart. I believe it helps the viewers understand how the different energy resources compare to each other. I also liked how you reorganized the information for Solar Energy and Wind Energy. It feels like the items have more space and they do not appear to be cramped up.
Inquire:
Throughout the presentation some of the text was difficult to read due to the font or color. Have you considered experimenting with different shades that still fall into the color scheme, or using different visual effects to help the text pop? I was also wondering if there was a reason you changed the format for the KinetEco Logo? If so, what was the reason behind this?
Suggest:
For enhancing the text to make it more readable and appealing to the eye, I would recommend playing around with the colors and effects a bit. For instance, for your title page you could add a light drop shadow to help elevate the text to separate it from the background if you wanted to stick with the darker green; you may also want to consider making the font bigger like you did on slide in the body of the slide. For “Illuminating facts about” you might want to consider using a black or dark green for the drop shadow instead of a white to help it stand out from the yellow background.
Elevate:
I think that the Credits slide will work out nicely once you are able to add the scrolling credits to it. Perhaps you could consider reading some additional articles about complementary colors and special effects on text to help it pop out in typography. Before starting a new project, I always re-read the following article: https://www.fonts.com/content/learning/fontology/level-2/type-and-color/type-and-color.

Task 4
Hi Joshua,See my feedback below:
Reflect
I think that you did a great job with your keynote presentation. It’s easy to understand and easy to manipulate from tab to tab. The data flows nicely and your voice has a welcoming tone. Each slide also appears uniformed and connected to each other which makes your overall presentation professional.
Inquire
I do have a few questions though. For the final draft were you planning on adding any interactive features? Learner engagement increases with appropriate interactivity. Also, what was the reasoning behind the script wording for slide 5 when you stated that renewable energy is responsible for about 12% of energy generated, even though your graphic specifically states 11.7 percent?
Suggest
As I watched your presentation, I felt as if I wanted more options to learn more, or avenues to learn more about each slide. I think that adding possibly a link to a website or maybe a Did you know box or some other element that required me to do more than just click to the next slide. I think you need something that would allow me to explore further this would really enhance your module.
Elevate
In the future, I would suggest that you while you maintain your simple, professional and clean presentation you could think of ways that would engage your learner. It could be something as simple as adding sound effects, or background music. For example, slide 7 where you speak about installing solar power to your home, you could have said “click the home to see the cost”. Simple but still forcing me to interact with your module. As I said before, I am very impressed and can see that much work has been done already, looking forward to seeing your final draft.
Instructor
Hi Josh,It would have been better to have the narration start on the intro slide, instead of the second slide - just a little confusing to the user. Also, when clicking on the icons, make sure your hotspots cover the whole icon, not just part of each. I had to "hunt and click" to find the hotspot on a few of them. The Wind Energy slide, seemed somewhat short, as compared to the other slides. I was expecting more of a send off either on that slide or at least on the credits' slide. Just the same, it was a good presentation, interactive, and easy to navigate through. The narration was engaging and made the presentation interesting.
Cheers,Dr. Reo
