I'm finally watching that movie you said to see

I'm tired of people being surprised I haven't seen *insert favorite movie* Not really film reviews, not as fun as reaction videos.

The first movie I'd never seen
I was 8 when Titanic came out, and it felt like everyone and their mother had seen it.
For nearly a year it was the only movie people talked about. It was in theaters for 10 months, and just when I thought the worst was over it broke the record for most Academy Awards, making it the Greatest Movie Ever and keeping it in the news cycle even longer. Everyone had it on VHS, and to this day you can find them lingering in thrift stores. My classmates were astonished that I hadn't seen it; I was bewildered as to why so many 8 year olds had seen a 3 hour movie with a sex scene in a car. When I went to visit my grandmother we made a cake decorated like the fucking NECKLACE. After a while I grew so irritated that I vowed to never watch it out of spite.
Twenty years later I started dating my husband, a member of the Titanic Historical Society and film student with strong opinions on practical effects and cinematography. Titanic was re-released in theaters for its 20th anniversary.
I ended my Titanic boycott for date night, and we criticized it together. It was not the greatest movie ever, but I will concede the the mix of practical effects and strategic CGI still holds up today. I know far more about the production of that movie than I ever wanted, and enough about the actual sinking to give tours at the Luxor exhibit.
I won't bother to review it because RedLetterMedia already said everything that needs to be said about this movie, but for funsies here's our curio cabinet featuring: a book published in 1912 about the sinking; a painting of the RMS Olympic used by White Star Line as advertising material for Titanic tickets; and some vintage photos from the 1943 Titanic produced in Nazi Germany that is now lost media.

"Oh my god, you've never seen it?!"
If you've ever told someone you haven't seen the movie they are talking about, you've probably heard that sentence before, followed by:
"It's my favorite movie!"
"It's a classic!"
"You HAVE to watch it!"
And you've probably responded with something along the lines of:
"Nope, I've really never watched it."
"I've caught bits on TV/YouTube."
"I know the plot so I get the references."
"It's on my to watch list."
I've Never Scene It is myself, my husband, and two friends taking turns getting through our To Watch list. Movies are chosen based on the criteria that someone in the group hasn't seen it and the rest of us think they should. This blog is a record of our reactions.
