Happy birthday to Martin Luther King Jr.! Therese is modeling a 1960s style heart print dress based on a photograph of a Black woman from the 1960s. I designed this fabric, which is available in my Spoonflower store. This dress, which was made by my mom, is currently available on my Etsy store.
“Power without love is reckless and abusive, and love without power is sentimental and anemic. Power at its best is love implementing the demands of justice, and justice at its best is power correcting everything that stands against love.” - Martin Luther King Jr.

this is your daily reminder that a collab with a luxury brand around the historicals is NOT the same as reviving the historical line

To describe the various dresses of the Ladies I must leave to an abler Pen than mine ; it seems they breathe nothing but fashion and elegance and are grown so young as not only to appear in their Sashes but their Shifts.
--excerpt from a letter, likely from Mrs. Wedderburn, to Mrs. Hastings, 1783, on the subject of women's fashion.

Am I going wear the stockings I bought solely for my Felicity costume today because it's freaking cold and they're nice and warm and wooly? Yes, yes I am.

I remember you from the AG Playthings message board, Joni! To be honest I may have let out a bit of a fangirly squeal when I saw your comment. For those of you who don't know Joni made AMAZING HISTORICALLY ACCURATE doll clothes. Like this iconic pair of bathing costumes made from bed sheets!

(So many cute dolly clothes on the Kindred Thread Facebook page)
She is the author of the ICONIC Kit Kittredge fanfic Kit Grows Up.

Hey everyone! I've made a Pinterest board with some of my favorite historical sewing patterns from Etsy. Links are monetized but that doesn't add anything extra to the price you pay. Enjoy!

because i keep making the mistake of going into ag communities outside of tumblr, i've really been trying to reckon with the consumerism in the fandom, so here's a few reminders if you are into collecting ag items!
this is a hobby! and like all hobbies, it should be bringing you joy. if it's stressing you out, that's probably a sign that you need to step back, which is an absolutely okay thing to do
your collection is valid even if it includes replicas of items originally made by american girl
you do not have to buy items that you don't love just to reach the arbitrary goal of "completing" a collection
you should not be purchasing items that you don't like just for the sake of keeping up with american girl's newest releases
american girl has continuously been showing us that they are much more interested these days in being a luxury nostalgia brand. you do not have to engage with what the brand is currently doing or producing to be a part of the fandom or collecting community
in fact, you do not have to do a lot of research to learn that mattel is not an ethical company. i'm not going to shame anyone who does continue to purchase products from american girl, but please do not be purchasing items from this brand just from a place of consumerism. there are so many small businesses that produce items for ag dolls that you can support, and you can easily find many second-hand american girl products
you should never be spending money that you don't have on american girl
making clothes and items is valid! handmade parts of your collection are beautiful

every outfit worn by rebecca mader as cornelia edwards in samantha: an american girl holiday (2004)
(check out what appears to be a repeat wear of her going-away suit with a different shirtwaist! she seemingly wears it a third time in fact, but it's with the same shirtwaist as the second time, so i didn't feature that. she also wears the purple suit twice, but it's worn in the exact same way, so i only included it once. finally, there's a repeat of the grey/black coat and matching hat, but i believe she has on a different shirtwaist underneath in the second wear, as well as a different purse)

Hi! Do you happen to have or know where to find the original Samantha illustrations for Samantha Learns a Lesson? (Specifically the one with Sam and Nellie at Mount Better School, where Sam is holding the book) I've looked everywhere but I can't find it
Here you go!

Why do so many American Girl fans want a Japanese internment camp doll? Don’t they realize that’s a really bad idea?
Now if she was only in a camp for the very first part of her stories (like how Addy was enslaved), or it all took place before her story started, that would be okay.
But the people wishing for a doll like this never clarify that, so I assume they mean a girl *in a camp*
And let’s not, okay? Let’s just not
But I’m white so don’t take my word above a Japanese person

I learned today that the artist behind The Creation of God and the Birth of Oshun paintings is Harmonia Rosales, the daughter of Melodye Benson Rosales, and the original model for the Addy illustrations.

This beautifully detailed Edwardian gown was first spotted on Mia Farrow as Grandmary in the 2004 production 𝑺𝒂𝒎𝒂𝒏𝒕𝒉𝒂: 𝑨𝒏 𝑨𝒎𝒆𝒓𝒊𝒄𝒂𝒏 𝑮𝒊𝒓𝒍 𝑯𝒐𝒍𝒊𝒅𝒂𝒚.   The piece was spotted again in 2015 in the episode of 𝑴𝒖𝒓𝒅𝒐𝒄𝒉 𝑴𝒚𝒔𝒕𝒆𝒓𝒊𝒆𝒔 entitled 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑫𝒆𝒗𝒊𝒍 𝑾𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒔 𝑾𝒉𝒂𝒍𝒆𝒃𝒐𝒏𝒆, where Kari Matchett wore it as Miss Heloise.   Have you seen this costume somewhere else?
