I’ve rewatched the ad at least three times to try and figure out why some folks are angry with it and I’m at a loss.  All I see here is: Be a better human. Set a better example. Encouraging strength of character and integrity over typical “machismo”.

Here’s the thing about mental illness

It is a fucking battle.

A fucking gory, bloody, eyeballs-ripped-from-sockets, battle.

And you fight every single day.

Because your therapist says you have to try and you don’t want to make the people you love worry anymore.

And then your therapist says you’re making progress and your friends don’t seem as worried anymore and your mom isn’t calling you every ten minutes with panic in her voice and you think you’ve won

And then one day it’s back.

It’s back and it’s stronger and it’s laughing at you for thinking you could overcome

And that’s when you realized when you were busy patting yourself on the back- you were losing. You were always losing.

Cuz the thing about mental illness

Is there is no winners.

You can’t fight an opponent that knows your every move and you can’t beat a game that’s rigged.
