something kind of uneventful but i thought it’d be fun to live this kind of meaningless life where the only thing you worry about is incomparable to the actual reality of life. anyways.
“hm?” victor absentmindedly hummed, spinning a pen around his fingers with practiced ease.
cedric sighed and peered down at the blonde with an exasperated expression, “i’ve been repeating this five times already and i still don’t get it and you’re really not helping.”
victor raised an eyebrow as a response but set his pen down and glanced over the paper.
he read with lips forming silent words and reaching the ending frowned.
“what’s with the ending?” he asked, reading over the last paragraph again.
cedric sighed even louder, “that’s what i’m saying. i don’t know, i think someone just didn’t use autocorrect.”
he nodded in agreement and pulled out a crumpled sheet of paper from his school bag.
“think we need to rewrite it, eddie?” victor grinned lazily brandishing a well taken care of pen towards his direction.
cedric grimaced at the name, “please never call me that,” he grumbled. he always said that.
“whatever,” victor mumbled and started jotting down the first few paragraphs, with the other essay paper side by side.
meanwhile cedric was piling books into categories. the algebra books, world history maps, a really big thesaurus, and so on. normally the library table would be beyond messy, books stacked and laying on top of one another where the table color was barely visible.
the only sounds now and then would be the rustling of paper and the scratching of a pen. cedric did feel a bit useless as he stared at victor’s handwriting which was honestly a mess of its own, so he decided to open up a book.
he plucked out a mathematics book on different types of algebraic equations and this one chapter looked quite informative. there was a complex way to actually find x but he was always good at that class so cedric sat back in his uncomfortable chair and started reading.
now and then, an occasional page flip would resound through their empty corner of the library and finally victor slammed his hand down on the table.
cedric who was immersed in the book jumped and dropped it, losing the page he was on.
he gave victor a stink eye and swooped to pick it up.
“what the hell, vic,” he said accusingly.
he got a cheeky smile in response.
then just as quickly his face sobered and he looked down at the paper. there was some ink smudging but that was alright.
“there were a LOT of mistakes here, i’ve basically had to rewrite at least 54% of it. anyway we just need the ending now.”
cedric nodded glumly, really not wanting to do this. he needed to though so he set his very upset emotions aside and got to work.
they were both hunched over the essay whispering furiously and snatching the poor battered pen to add sentences up until there was a knocking sound.
victor glanced up without moving his head and then looked back down to fix the punctuation.
cedric inwardly sighed at victor’s social apathy but smiled up warmly at the intruder.
“hello, sophia was it?”
she sniffed and adjusted the books that were falling out of her hands.
“yes, it is.”
they stared at each other for a few moments.
there was a groan next to cedric and both heads swiveled to stare at the boy.
“you didn’t come here to make small talk, what do you want?” victor practically hissed out.
the thing was as much as victor was a great friend, he wasn’t too keen on strangers and particularly didn’t like dealing with them. the only way cedric became friends with victor was after hours and hours of him practically pushing himself into the annoyed blonde’s vicinity. they became best friends after though, so it was all well.
sophia looked a bit taken aback at the harsh tone but quickly composed herself before her hands slipped.
“i just wanted to ask if you guys do study sessions.”
cedric and victor both shared a brief look at that.
“no,” cedric said, clearing his throat awkwardly, “we don’t.”
he spotted victor in the corner of his eye staring down sophia’s big frizzy hair.
“have you tried conditioner?” victor piped out.
sophia spun and stared concerningly at him.
he raised an eyebrow at her lack of response and ducked his head to grab a book on the floor.
she looked around, eyes darting towards the piles of books and their bags hastily tossed off to the side.
“well...” she started slowly, “i guess i’ll ask someone else..”
cedric encouraged sophia on this idea while victor just hummed, flipping through the pages on the book he had grabbed.
she walked away eventually and cedric leaned back into his seat, dragging his fingers through his unkempt brown hair.
“at least you didn’t punch her,” he said exasperatedly.
victor shrugged and replied with a low “was going to.”
in the end they finished the essay.
they got an A+ from a very pleased mrs. brennon.
