When you have an ultra right wing Christian* unaccountable SCOTUS majority for whom “originalism” means returning this country to roughly what it was in the 18th and 19th centuries, this is what you get. They genuinely mean to repeal the 20th century. We’re going to “freedom” ourselves to death.

And their utter impunity is the direct result of socially moderate and liberal voters’ passivity and checked out disinterest in active civic participation, combined with right wing Christianist voters’ stolid determination to ALWAYS vote, even for Satan himself, to get their way.

One side views democracy as war while the other side — the actual majority — treats it as an accessory. This is how nations lose their democracies. Y’all have basically one last chance this year. You need AT LEAST 60 Democratic votes in the Senate; 62-64 to be safe-to reverse it.

Some of y’all are gonna Netflix and chill your way into Gilead and be real surprised — and not in a good way. When democracy is gone, high gas prices will be the least of our problems.

And I’m not saying Democrats are perfect. Far from it. In many ways they’re a pain in the arse; frustrating and slow on the uptake. But — & I can’t stress this enough — they are the ONLY PARTY THAT CURRENTLY BELIEVES ELECTIONS SHOULD COUNT AND PEOPLE SHOULD HAVE THE RIGHT TO VOTE

It’s really them or the freaking abyss. And trust me you DO NOT want to live in Gilead. You think you’ll just get prayer back in school but what you really get is no women’s rights, no civil rights, no voting rights, no Miranda rights, no LGBTQ rights & no rights vs corporations.

If you’re cool with that, stay home in November and complain that Democrats can’t overcome the Senate filibuster using sorcery or whatever or that Biden won’t pull his secret gas prices lever and make them magically go down. And see how that works when MAGA is in full control.

The answer to this hell isn’t sexy, y’all. It’s the same ish I’ve been screaming my whole adult life. The majority needs only to BE the majority and vote like it: every race, from school board to state rep to congress to POTUS, again and again and again until you have real POWER.

Because please know that the other side has done exactly that since the 1960s and will keep doing so until the 20th century reforms to our society are a distant memory that’s illegal to teach in school. I’m done. Be blessed.
