Gordon approaches the test chamber, making one-sided conversation with the guards, who seem to prefer ignoring him, and getting lost in the hallways (cursing the architects). The scientists' warnings about the abnormality of the sample go right over his head, and he enters.

Barry pokes his head in shortly after, while Gordon is receiving his instructions and nobody's paying much attention to the door. It can't hurt, right?

"You and me both. If I mess this up they'll finally get it together to fire my ass. I know they've been out to get me. That's why the tram here always goes slower when it's me riding it. They're making me late on purpose."

Half Life: Timelines is a (sort of) crossover between HL:VRAI and Freeman's Mind - When Gordon Freeman gets caught in the resonance cascade, things get screwy, and he meets his double. Arguing about who the real Gordon Freeman is aside, they still have to find their way out of Black Mesa - and working together, as much as they hate it, is likely the best way to do that.
