Go Verb a Noun!
5K posts
Hi, I'm Peter (he/him/他/él/lo) and I made a YouTube channel called Go Verb a Noun (interviews with YouTube EDU). I'm also a Librarian-in-Training at UBC. I care about access to information that changes lives for the better.

As a librarian and former intelligence analyst, one can imagine that I have an interesting relationship to/with information and misinformation. But at the end of the day, both jobs had the same goal: put people into meaningful and useful contact with information so that they can make informed decisions!
So, I thought I’d tackle the topic of how to spot and stop misinformation/disinformation, because the more people we have working on the problem, the less work for me! :D

NEW VIDEO - Finding Library Jobs for Fun and (non)Profit!
Whether you’re already a librarian, soon graduating from library school, or still trying to decide if librarianship is for you, knowing where to find jobs in libraries is an important skill to have.
Having monitored library job postings in two countries *checks watch* 5 years now, I thought it might be helpful for y’all if I shared some of the places I look! It’s not exhaustive but it’ll get you looking in the right direction – and who knows, maybe you’ve got a resource or two to share, too!

If you think you want to become a librarian, watch this video first: there are a few hard pills you'll have to swallow, and it's up to you to decide whether it's worth it or not.

Let’s talk about libraries vs. COVID-19!
Hey y’all, so there’s a lot of info out there and not all of it is true, so I decided to put together a video that’s a rallying cry of sorts for libraries and librarians.
Our communities are scared and vulnerable, and we’re in a good position to help fix both of those things – but how do?!
In short, we’re gonna get that f*cker outta our stacks.

To round out Black History Month, I wanted to talk a bit about race in libraries and highlight the work of several librarians who really demonstrate black excellence.
Our profession has come a long way, but there’s still quite a ways to go to make sure that the demographics of our profession resemble those of the communities we serve – and just as important, a ways to go before librarians are treated with equal dignity regardless of the color of their skin.
What did I miss? Who did I forget? Let me know – learning is rad! :D And if you like what I do (and have the means), consider throwing some coins at my Patreon to help me create more library content. :)

Happy Holidays, y’all!
This one goes out to all the librarians who are working over the holidays, whether that’s Christmas Eve, Boxing Day, or any other day that other people usually get off. You’re doing good work.

I definitely didn’t wander around my library last night whispering to everyone, “happy november 18th, come to the information desk and I’ll waive all of your fines, no questions asked!”
certainly didn’t pull up the accounts of everyone logged into our public computers and waive every last cent of fines.
nope, no proof
Me: I need a library card, but I just moved so I don’t have an ID with my address or any mail with it.
Librarian: -slides me a blank library postcard- Write your address on this like it would be mailed to you.
Me: Sure?
Librarian: -takes it back- Great! Now we have mail with your address on it!
Me: …does it really work that way?
Librarian: the rules don’t say it DOESN’T work that way. Here’s your new library card!

So you’re starting Grad School!
Congratulations, you’ve decided to pursue an advanced degree that has the capacity to impact hundreds of thousands of lives, and oh my god when I put it that way what did I sign myself up for, please send help –
I jest, of course. Getting your MLIS can be a super scary thing – but you aren’t doing it alone, and there’s lots of things you can do to make it more manageable & hit the ground running into your career.
Here’s some advice I put together based on my own experience, may it serve you well into the future!

In this second part, Greg & Kyle tell us a bit about the motivations that led to the collection & exhibit, why this work even matters, and the invisible but essential work that librarians and library workers do. Thanks again, and a special thanks to Chelsea Shriver at UBC’s Rare Books and Special Collections.
