ONC names winning software for EHR reporting challenge

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has announced the winners of a new challenge to develop software for identifying and reporting safety and usability issues in EHRs in a way that doesn’t disrupt clinical workflow.

The winning tools aim to make it easy to report IT issues within the healthcare workflow: giving feedback to developers and guiding the formation of best practices. The hope is to targeting usability challenges before they become major problems.

Three winners were announced:

The James Madison Advisory Group came in first, with a hotkey that allows a clinician to document an issue without leaving their EHR and which simplifies the process of reporting issues.

Pegwin, in second place, developed an intuitive reporting system that allows a user to document an issue “in as few as three clicks.”

Jared Schwartz and team came in third with a Google Chrome plugin which integrates with common IT ticketing platforms, making it easy to work into existing systems. The winners received $45,000, $25,000, and $10,000 respectively.

WHY IT MATTERS Like any software, EHRs sometimes have flaws or malfunctions. An already busy clinician who is trying to manage a full patient load, perform diagnostic work and enter data usually doesn’t have time to document and report safety or usability issues to his or her IT department.

Finding a way to work tools into the care workflow that allow practitioners to capture and share potential safety and usage concerns results in greater efficiency without disrupting a clinical workflow.

Improving the safety of health IT remains an important priority, said Dr. Andy Gettinger, ONC chief clinical officer. We believe that making it easier for end users to report will help in that goal.

THE LARGER TREND EHRs have the potential to be the first point of data capture in a new landscape of precision care. First, though, they need to win over physicians who see them as cumbersome and byzantine replacements to the old pen and paper methods.

Some healthcare systems are focusing on identifying those problems and addressing them to enhance the value of their EHR systems. Practitioners are experiencing EHR burnout – something ONC has also recently been working to help combat – where poor usability or other IT safety concerns can have a detrimental impact on effective patient care.

ON THE RECORD Helping reduce the burden of health IT continues to be a key area of focus at the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology, and we anticipate the winning submissions to the Easy EHR Issue Reporting Challenge will help with those efforts, said ONC chief Dr. Don Rucker.

Paul McCartney To Perform At Lambeau Field This Summer

Beatles legend Paul McCartney is set to perform at the iconic Lambeau Field during his 2019 Freshen Up Tour. The concert is scheduled for June 8.

Coming soon: @PaulMcCartney is set to play @LambeauField on Saturday, June 8! the Green Bay Packers tweeted.

He has a team that took a tour of Lambeau Field and they saw a tremendous facility and they understand the iconic nature of the facility itself, said Jason Wright, President of Live Nation.

In 2017, the Packers had held a Billy Joel concert at the stadium and more than 45,000 people attended the show. However, next year the Packers are celebrating their 100th season.

We're honored to welcome Paul McCartney to Lambeau Field and we're excited for Green Bay to host such a celebrated musician and iconic performer for the first time, said Packers President/CEO Mark Murphy. We're looking forward to fans of multiple generations joining us this summer for this historic show.

This is kind of fitting being our 100th season and we are really looking back and celebrating the history of the Packers, Murphy said. I think this will be a memorable evening. There aren't many acts that can fill a stadium this size so it's going to be major.

The Freshen Up tour is Paul's first trek following the release of his album, Egypt Station, released back on September 7 via Capitol Records.

In addition to the Lambeau Field show, McCartney has also added shows at Globe Life Park in Arlington, Texas on June 14, Petco Park in San Diego on June 22 and Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles on July 13 to his tour plans.

ROB KARDASHIAN, BLAC CHYNA HAVE NO CO-PARENTING ISSUES AMID CHILD SUPPORT WAR

Rob Kardashian and Blac Chyna might be duking it out in court over money to care for their daughter — but turns out there’s a measure of peace behind the scenes.

Sources connected to both parents tell us Rob and BC are a well-oiled co-parenting machine when it comes to baby Dream … they’ve both been cooperative in creating and abiding by a fair schedule … with zero hiccups so far.

We’re told the former couple manages their 50/50 split like this — 4 days with one parent and 3 days with the other … and they switch that up week-to-week. Sometimes there’s scheduling conflict with either Chyna or Rob, but they’ve learned to pivot without any real drama.

A big reason for their success … nannies!!! We’re told both Rob and Chyna have their own who handle all the baby hand-offs.  

Here’s the thing … Rob and Chyna intensely dislike each other, but they have figured out a way to wall off their feelings when it comes to their daughter.

As we reported … Rob’s gone back to court asking a judge to lower his child support payments, which had been set at $20k/month. We’re told Rob had planned to request the payments be chopped down from the get-go, and only agreed to the hefty child support to get Chyna to back off her domestic violence claims … which could’ve hurt him.

Chyna’s lawyer, Lisa Bloom, tells us Rob didn’t pull a fast one on anybody — saying they fully expected him to go back to go court to lower his payments.

For now, Chyna’s not getting a penny from Rob. The judge put all payments on hold a few months ago until he decides what, if anything, Rob should pay her.
