Game jam MMO
So, I decided to compete in IGMC this year.  (https://itch.io/jam/igmc2018) and I set myself the task of creating my own 2D MMORPG, more or less from scratch.  When all is said and done, I’ll have put together four different applications to support this one project:
Game client launcher (Windows WPF app)
Game client (GMS2)
Authentication server (Java)
Game/world server (Java)
The good news is that the launcher and the authentication server are 100% done and good to go.  The bad news is that the game client and world server are huge projects in of themselves and they’re nowhere near complete.  This has been a great learning experience, though!
Coming up with your own authentication scheme from scratch is PROBABLY not worth it, but I’m mean to myself so I went ahead and did it anyway.
I might do some technical writeups for some of the bits and pieces that went into this once the jam is over and I’m not living a software crunch anymore.
Happy Thanksgiving, USA.
Happy Thursday, everybody else.

Here’s some screenshots from Plane Puncher.  It’s been more than a year since I released it under the VJ_Browning moniker and it’s still free, so I feel like it’s okay to shove it in people’s faces again!  If you like smashing planes out of the air as a giant flying fist, please enjoy!  Be advised, this game is not easy.

Also, I gave up my career (at least temporarily) to be an independent game developer. Oh god what have I done?  Hurray!

Hey, it’s Plane Puncher!  That game what I made under the VJ_Browning moniker.  It’s still free and really difficult.  planepuncher.com  I made this entire game over about a week’s staycation from my then day job, more than a year ago.  Now I’ve set my reliable paycheck aside to pursue game development full time.  So far It’s been terrifying fun.

Custom text renderer for the pesky localization engine is done.  Now anybody with the language skills will be able to submit localization packs via Steam Workshop.  Nevermind that the project has no name or graphics yet, those are just pesky details.

There may be something wrong with me, I don’t know.

I could just use a free font, but noooo…
Only bespoke artisanal fonts are good enough for the likes of my games.
If this works as intended, localization options will be super easy for anyone to contribute to via the steam workshop.  (As long as they have the language skills, of course)
