GayKotOR is Officially on Indefinite Hiatus

In light of the news of a KotOR remake, Mod believe it is time to officially put GayKotOR on indefinite hiatus.

Running dedicated fandom blogs like this takes a lot of time and energy, and Mod does not have as much time or energy to run this blog as they used to. With the KotOR remake being official, there is going to be an influx of new fans as well as old fans who return to KotOR, with a new wave of fan content that Mod afraid they will no longer be able to keep up with.

This blog will still be up for archive purpose. Even with GayKotOR on indefinite hiatus, let us never forget that the original KotOR introduced Juhani, the very first confirmed LGBTQ+ character in both Star Wars and BioWare games. Let us hope the KotOR remake will give Juhani the respect she deserves by keeping her a lesbian, keeping her romance content exclusive to the female player character, ideally with her romance subplot more fleshed-out.

Thank you all LGBTQ+ KotOR fans for the support throughout the years.

I think I just got blocked by someone for pointing out that Juhani was a pretty revolutionary character for the time? And now I can't see their post at all.

Like, they were saying that she was an afterthought by the developers so I commented that the developers had to fight like hell to get her romance in because the executives didn't want wlw rep (or lgbt+ rep in general) in the game. And I don't think I was being mean or rude by it so I'm confused why I was seemingly blocked.

Anyway, what we see in the game is amazing for early 2000 standards. The fact they were able to get as much as we did in product connected to such a big franchise was, frankly, a miracle. It might not seem like a big deal today, since it's easier to find rep in video games, but Juhani was really important, and even with how subtle her romance is, there was a ton of backlash for it's existence... because it was the early 2000s.

I remember when I first found out about the game in middle school. Finding out about her. I remember the immense joy her mere existence gave me as a young queer kid growing up in an extremely queerohobic town and school. Because seeing lgbt+ characters who weren't stereotypes, villains, or dead was rare at best. I remember going on forums. I remember all the hateful comments targeted towards Juhani, specifically because she's a lesbian.

Juhani was extremely important for lgbt+ rep in video games, even if her romance is more subtle and less fleshed out than the straight options. Most lgbt+ rep up to that point were either stereotypical npcs (or worse, villains), or they were very thinly implied because doing anything more than that would land the makers in hot water (including possible legal reprocussions).

Juhani meanwhile was a fully playable, major character in a popular early 2000s video game. And she's a lesbian, no ifs ands or buts.

Her romance might not be the best written thing by today's standards but that doesn't change the fact that she was and is incredibly important for what she represented at the time of her creation, and the fact that we got her at all in fucking 2003 was a miracle.

Rating: T for alcohol and implied sexytimes Pairing: F!Exile/Luxa Summary: Luxa is an ambitious, career-driven, self-serving gangster.  But she isn’t unreasonable.  A rewrite of the Exile’s encounters with our favorite Zeltron.

   The Exile walks into the cantina, sporting a split lip and a scowl unbecoming of a Jedi.  

 Finally out of custody.  Luxa knew the day was coming as her mole in the TSF informed her the investigation into Peragus II’s untimely explosion, and subsequent house arrest, were winding down.  She admittedly hadn’t expected it to be tonight.

 Benok slips something into fresh drink and swoops in, his pair of goons trailing like kath hounds after their alpha.  Beta, really.   How he became, much less managed to stay, Slusk’s head of protection was beyond her.  Human women seemed to like his attempts at charm well enough.  Or they just knew better than to reject him immediately.

 Still, he has the subtlety of a wampa on Tatooine as he sidles up to the Exile. Luxa signals her gamorrean entourage to wait.  If she can’t see through Benok’s bluster, she isn’t worth Luxa’s time.

 The Exile makes the mistake of being cordial, but is smart enough to refuse the offered drink as Benok introduces himself and his posse.  Unfortunately for her, taking hints has never been his strong suit.  Tension tightens her shoulders as she deflects and declines his increasingly aggressive offers and flirts.  Her eyes narrow, fists clench, and Luxa can imagine exactly how she acquired that split lip.

 “Oh, leave the woman alone, Benok,” she calls from her seat at the bar.  As much as she’d enjoy seeing the asshole get what was coming, it wouldn’t do her any favors undermining him in the long run.

 "Now, now, Luxa, I didn’t mean to exclude you.“  Benok can’t quite hide the flash of indignant anger at being interrupted, but attempts to smooth it over.  "You’re probably Slusk’s strongest woman.”

 "I’m not the one you should be worried about.”  Luxa nods towards the Exile. “She looks ready to mop the floor with you.“

 “Don’t be ridiculous.  We’re just getting acquainted.”

 The Exile smiles sweetly and holds out her hand for the drink Benok has been trying to entice her with since she walked into the cantina.  He hands it over and shoots a smug grin over his shoulder, that’s washed away as the drink is upturned over his head.  

 "We were just leaving anyway,” he sputters, scowling, and retreats with a gesture for his posse to follow.  At least he’s got enough of a brain to realize it’s too public for anything aggressive.

KotOR Mod Spotlight: JC's Romance Enhancement: Biromantic Bastila for K1

This is not the first KotOR mod that allows a female player character to romance Bastila, but what makes this mod different is that this mod also it also further edits Bastila’s dialogue so Bastila would not refer to Female Revan as a man. This mod also fixes the bugs with Bastila’s romance during the endgame.

Notes:

This mod is not compatible with The Romancing of Bastila mod.

To make this mod compatible with Bastila & Female Revan (Untold Love Story) mod, you must install this mod AFTER Untold Love Story.

do the gay mods work if you've already started the game or do you need to start a new one? I'm at the end of disk 1 (because I'm a hipster ass retro gamer who doesn't like steam) but I'm playing for the first time and I just discovered the gay mods through tumblr after having joked with my best friend that bastila is my girlfriend, now I realize that I really could lesbians with bastila and I'm torn I don't want to start over after like 50 hours of fun and adventuring but... the gay.

As a general rule, when it comes to mods that modify a significant amount of story content and dialogue, it’s always safer to start a new playthrough after installing the mods. Starting over may look like a hassle, but it’s by far the best way to avoid bugs and ensure the mods are working as intended.
