Roller Polar is the marriage of twitchy arcade and endless runner, and it is the combination of simple one-hand controls and notoriously challenging game mechanics. After a series of quick failure early on, you know this is a handy game for self-torture where you will fail countless times and still come back trying to do better.
Roller Polar is about a polar bear that rides a snowball down the mountain, just like what you sometimes see from the cartoon. But it definitely needs your help to avoid being tripped by a lot hitch-hikers. You see, as the snowball rolls down, everything in its path from rocks & trucks to living animals are half-wrapped into it and rolling together. It takes at least one circle for these unwilling hitch-hikers to get away. And the poor bear can rely on nothing but its timely jumps to avoid them and stay alive.
In-game controls are simple. Tap once to hop and tap twice consecutively to perform a higher backflip. To hop or jump higher depends on the size of the upcoming hazards. Small wildlife like penguins and squirrels as well as rocks is easy to hop over, while the tall things like deer, snowmen and Christmas trees requires a quick twice tap to dodge. If you step over or get hit by any of them, you fail and have to start over. The game goal is to jump over as many hazards as possible and keep breaking your own record.
Hazards also vary from each other in the way they go. Not only do large things require higher jump, they are also more difficult to get rid of. Take the snowman for example. You have to dodge it three times, first a whole body, then a bust and at last its hat, once it is caught up in the snowball. Other than barriers on the ground, you really need to watch for the bloody birds that are adept at catching you off-guard. When you are pleased at your perfect dodge of that pair of elk antlers, that bird comes from nowhere to knock you off. And the similar failure will happen more often than you think, too frequent to let you force the idea of “jumping over that bird” into a habit. Then, guess what? You may even jump right into it, because that bird shifts to a higher height sometimes.
Roller Polar is progressively difficult. And switching to a new snowball is just the watershed. At certain point, you have to rid of your old ride and hop into a new one to survive the collision. Greater challenge awaits. The snowball rolls faster and the hazards become more clustered. Instead of one barrier each time, you have to time you hops and back-flips perfectly to dodge four rocks as a cluster or a squirrel adjoining a tree. There are no power-ups or special abilities to use. Just jump and jump at perfect timing.
Roller Polar can be played completely for free. You can pay a small amount of cash to get rid of the adverts that pop up at times between you failures. Its challenging jumps, beautiful pixel art and vivid soundtrack all come together nicely. It is a great time-waster that you can play for a long time.

Peggle Blast brings more of the similar fun from the classic Peggle game. It features tons of new levels expanding across several worlds guarded by the familiar and new Peggle Masters and packs in couples of new goals in addition to clearing the orange pegs. Differently, it comes as a freemium title, so you’d see the timer and IAPs in tow.
Aiming and bouncing remain to be the basic mechanics in Peggle Blast. You tap to guide the shooting cursor, hold down to see the close-up of the landing point, and tap again to shoot the ball. You have limited balls to use and so need to focus on the level goal. Besides the orange peg clearance, some levels involve about dropping couples of gems and hatching a number of phoenix eggs. While the former is simply about hitting down pegs and bricks that hold the gems to let them fall, the hatching task is sort-of on the opposite.
To complete the egg-hatching task, you need to hit an egg three times to crack it open. If you do not hatch but drop an egg, you fail instantly unless it happens to fall into the Free Ball Bucket sliding to and fro at the bottom of the screen. That makes an immediate hatch, equivalent to the Ring of Fire ball. And the Free Ball Bucket, as its naming suggest, is a generous pot that rewards you varying number of free ball supplies whenever your shots fall into it.
Peggle Blast has an evolving map filled with various worlds, each guarded by a special Peggle Master. You can see a couple of old faces including Bjorn the unicorn and Jimmy the squirrel and several new characters like the pink pig and pirate octopus. As you enter their guarding lands, Peggle Masters will show you their unique powers. You can use their special abilities to solve tricky levels: show the projectile of the bounce with Bjorn’s super guide, turn a ball into multiple nuts from Jimmy, and melt a path of pegs away with Shelldon’s slime and so on. As usual, you get three free supplies of their power and when running out you can but purchase them for real cash.
Unlike the classic Peggle, you cannot duel these masters. But there is one mean character named Fnord, the splenetic brother of Bjorn, constantly against you and bent on ruining your happy journey. At random levels, he would show up and make a level difficult by stealing away the Free Bucket or turning some orange pegs invisible.
The level design in Peggle Blast carries on the diversified and dynamic feature of its original. Bombs, fire balls, gnomes, keys, piñatas and rotating pivots will show up to spicy up the shooting experience. And the animation is generally colorful and explosive with numbers and rainbow stretches popping up with long shots and perfect slides.
Now let’s talk about its free-to-play integration. Peggle Blast has the usual five-heart timer and sets the threshold of Invite-Friends-or-Pay between different worlds. So you sigh when running out of lives and then frown at the push of Friend-invite. And Then? I don’t know, probably give it up and look for some substitutes which you can play without spamming friends. So overall Peggle Blast is fun and rich as usual, but its rate is towed down a bit by its freemium features.

Fist of Jesus: The Bloody Gospel of Judas is a hard and hilarious brawler based on the award-winning eponymous short film in 2013. It is a bloody journey of Jesus and his friend Judas to clean up the zombie-rampage mess. And the story has to be told from a miracle of Jesus that goes awry.
The story premise of Fist of Jesus is not strange for players who have ever watched the short film with the same name. Jesus performed a reviving miracle upon Lazarus only to turn him into a living plague that infected all creatures around into zombies. To solve that problem, Jesus turned to his friend Judas. And the only solution is to kill them all.
You play Judas who is nudged to the battlefield with a scared and worry face. While you unwittingly flinch near zombies, you strike and punch anyway. And that is pretty powerful punch, powerful enough to dismember zombies and turn them into blobs of gore. But you have to find the right attack stance. It seems that there are invisible lanes on the battleground and you can hit either environmental objects or the undead foes effectively only when you are at the same lanes. That is crucial, in particular, when you take on those shield-holding soldiers whose back is the only weak and break point.
New enemies keep joining the undead horde through levels. Lepers who explode, cowboys that point guns or wine glasses, gladiators armed with chains or lances, biters, skull-crackers, Lazarus that slaps you with bandage and more big bosses that come out of the myth will mix up in ever-growing horde to corner you and beat you to cough up some blood.
Punching is basic and useful all through the battle. But you still need some kickass moves to get you out of trouble as the enemies you face grow tougher and bigger. Thank Jesus, you can use some holy punishments and Judas skills to stay alive. Against a difficult zombie, several punches are not enough to kill but to stun. That gives you a chance to deal a deadly blow: directly tear out its heart, rip off its limbs or behead it (to offer sacrifice to the god). It requires timing, punching at the red section. And if you can create combos, the god honor you a halo behind your back and strengthened attack for a while. Besides, summoning pointy stars, releasing a blast beam and shaking off surrounding foes are all useful tricks to cause big casualty within your ability.
You will shed blood, too. While you are always outnumbered, you’d better keep an eye on your health bar. When it drains with your blood, you need to get some food heals while engaging in the combat. Break some crates and vases in the environment and you may find apples and burgers that can fill up your health. You will discover different fishes as well. Don’t eat, throw! And then watch them take away some green plagues in an explosion or under scissors/blade-like mouth.
Other than fishes, you can use some other weapons such as stones, bats, lances, chains and pistols. You don’t own them but simply pick them up from the environments or the hands of drop-dead zombies. When they are dropped or revealed, you need to get them before they vanish again. As short is their effect.
From battles you earn coins, the only currency in Fist of Jesus. You spend coins on upgrades. From health to punch to special powers, each can be leveled up through ten tiers so as to better prepare Judas in combat. Coins are also the only in-app purchases. Fist of Jesus is completely free to play but supported by ads. Buy any pack of coins and you can get rid of ads. And it is highly recommended to support the developer and fully enjoy the game at once.
Fist of Jesus: The Bloody Gospel of Judas is a really great and fun brawler. With its unique parody, satisfactory battle and great details that wrap everything, it wins our hearty recommendation.
