[Birdie] Patches Ref

Hello!  I started this blog, despite the name, not just to critique birdie, but to critique the art (not animations) of many artists in the animation meme and furry communities

I hope to keep this blog mostly drama related opinion free.  I don’t want this blog involved in drama.  I do have opinions, but I’m going to keep them to myself.

So to start off, let’s go along with the name and look at some birdie art.  I will be looking at the ref of Patches!

At first glance, it looks alright, it’s a solid character design and is cute looking and fitting!

But then you see the anatomy and consistency mistakes.

One arm starts out thinner than the other, then has a thicker wrist.  The same arm also connects where the armpit should be.

And the bulge seems to disappear?

Oh dear.  I’m gonna try to redline this the best I can, but I’m still learning anatomy to be honest.

I used a little trick I use whenever drawing rubber hose anatomy, which is to draw a pair of curves for the arms, draw lines coming from one arm perpendicularly, then copy those lines to the other curve to make the thickness the same.

I also slightly corrected the neck, it was a few pixels too thin and offcenter.

As for the bulge, there’s a fairly easy trick for this!

Simply lower the crotch of the pants to hide the bulge in a more natural way!

I couldn’t really find any other awful anatomy mistakes, but let me know if you notice something I don’t!
