Drew this guide on how I draw short races like (mostly) gnomes and halflings for some events over on the D&D amino~ So as a note, when I’m saying “running out of time” up there that’s referring to the event deadline :P It took me longer to draw this than expected…
I should probably mention I draw a lot of gnomes shorter than the heights the 5e book gives. Veta, that I use as an example a lot is 85 cm or a little below 3 feet whereas the book says gnomes are normally 3-4 feet. This is good for demonstration purposes of how to draw short adult races, but I just wanted to note that only the two tallest gnomes in the lineup up there are in that 3-4 feet range, with the tallest being 115 cm or a little below 4. Your average gnome would probably go to the waist of the elf, same as the elf child on the last page~
I think this is the first tutorial I’ve made. I hope I managed to note the most essential stuff. Only very little is an actual step-by-step tutorial, it’s mostly an explanation with drawn examples, but I hope it can still help someone out there.

This week’s not-Science-Fact-Friday: The promised “how to math your art” tutorial. I tried not go write too much, but feel free to send me a message with further questions if you want more explanations.
I also included a big version of the frog photo so that you can try it yourself. :) If you’re having trouble seeing angles, one trick is to flip the image upside down and draw it that way—it helps your brain stop seeing it as a frog, and allows it to look more like a collection of angles and shapes.

“okay, i’ve already watched five episodes of this. i’m prepared for whatever sarazanmai has in store for m–” Sarazanmai, immediately: Remember how that one main character has a crush on another one? and regularly has schoolkid fantasies about his crush? (Of course you remember! We’ve been reminding you since the fact was revealed.) Well, suddenly they’re all stuck in frog form and he’s the pov character again, so you can now watch the kid fantasize about a frog. As a frog. In case his POV wasn’t vicariously embarrassing enough before. :) “okay, i was naive. this is the start of the episode? well. at least it probably won’t get more uncomfortable later.”
Sarazanmai: Kappa pole-dancing in the background during the dialogue. Have fun focusing “haha, you think you can get me with this? this is nothing! at least this is an actual kappa and not a human turned into one! and you’ve already been weirde–”
Sarazanmai: actually the mc doesn’t mind disappearing because he thinks he’s outside of everyone’s circles and cannot connect to anyone; he might as well not exist already.
“okay. that’s a little too close to home. good job. i feel personally attacked… Actually, that fact itself is pretty great writing. Let’s see what happe–”
Sarazanmai: turns into a sports anime
“……………………………………………
“damn it.”
Also Sarazanmai:
thanks, I was wondering.
