Items CSV

Since spreadsheets seem to be a big thing in the FR community, I have whipped up a file you can use to get basic game database information into your spreadsheets.

Please use this url: https://items.kanojo.de/static/items.csv

To import the data into a spreadsheet use this command in the first cell of an empty tab: =IMPORTDATA("https://items.kanojo.de/static/items.csv")

It should look like this:

The file will be updated daily. If you use the IMPORTDATA command, all your spreadsheets will also be kept up to date! I hope I’m not causing my own server’s DDoS with this, then I’d need to remove it again.

Private items i.e. skins and accents are currently excluded.

Preview Dragon ID doesn't work on mobile

I've added the categories for Aberrations today and fixed a bug with apparel preview. If preview is still not working for you, please let me know which device/browser you are using and if possible details what item you are viewing and what's happening, thanks!

I'm grateful that you've resurrected this project, but the recent update renders kanojo unusable for me. Preview boxes no longer pop up, even with all browser extensions disabled. Is it possible to access the old version of the site?

Hi, could you let me know what kind of device/operating system and browser you are using? Also when you say "Preview boxes no longer pop up", what exactly don't you see in this screen. (Or is it on the apparel details page?)

Big item database revamp!

Phew this took me a while and there are still things left to do (well I'd never finish) but I think it's in an okay shape to replace the old that was in a very sorry state.

One major thing that I wanted to make sure is that the apparel and skin/accent preview mode that I know users appreciate at Kanojo is working. There are also a few improvements:

Use swipe on mobile or arrow keys on desktop to switch between the details of all search results on the page.

While the Item DB has always had next and previous links (those were kept too). You can now swipe or use the keyboard. Wanted to see how all Skydancer female skins in all of history look on your dragon? Now you can!

The DB saves your last entered preview Dragon ID by breed!

Meaning you can have different preview dragons configured for all skins types (breed and gender). This also translates to apparel preview where it will fill the input field when you switch to view a different breed. You can also paste the whole dragon URL into the field and it will pick out the ID for you!

Improved search

The old DB relied a lot on user input and that was from a time where the game database didn't exist. This is also the part that suffered the most during the last months while the old DB was still online. No chest contents, no item source information. The new pulls everything it can from the official Game Database and you can search for all Hibernal Den items etc. You can also toggle between also viewing private skins or just site items!

Stable urls

I can not guarantee that all urls will work forever but right now your whole search is included in the url, whether you have item details open and when you switch between links inside the database. You can share your search more easily and when you click through the DB like crazy you can use the back button to go back however many steps you want. Item details also have quick links to searches to all items of that category or subcategory or even view all skins from one artist!

Color breakdown of items are shown as a summary bar like in the old DB but you can click to expand it for a more detailed view.

It's now more than ever also suited for mobile viewports. Also all the information for one item are on the same page, no clicking through tabs! (Looking at you game database!)

I'd also like it to preserve historic data like one off Baldwin recipes that are now gone on the official Game Database (and that users preserve by posting comments). Unfortunately backfilling this data will be mostly manual and I hope I can get your help at some point. I will probably nuke all user accounts because they were mostly for editing and moderating and that needs a different approach now. If logins come back that will be so you can save item lists and the likes.

Short term

Search results ordering is still missing

Reporting for items that have wrong info. I've already noticed that custom skins often go online with the wrong breed/gender information and gets corrected afterwards. My Item DB needs to be informed to refetch those. For the meantime you can also write me a message when you notice it happening.

As this is a rewrite, not everything might go smooth, in that case please also message me!

Introducing Quicksearch

While I try to move the old database to a more modern implementation, I can show you this already. This is meant to be a quick reference lookup page while you're playing. Similar to the on site database input field in the upper corner you will get suggestions while you type. But! It will show the first item that matches instantly. It works well on desktop and mobile and make use of whatever space is available. It has shortcut links to the Auction House, Hoard, Vault and the on site database.

However there are some things I'd like to improve. There's no feedback when the server is responding slowly or not at all. Coli drop information still takes too much space.

Just a quick update, I’ve also added a link to the Auction House search to all entries (similar to what the official DB does but with treasure only preselected and the search expanded). Also some teeny icons at the top if those are easier to access.

The server spent the last days backfilling the official colors for all items. it appears that quite a bunch of skins don't have any colors at all. I thought I could just delete my code for picking colors but seems like I still need to use it in that case.

Now we're back to the usual update schedule that populates all new items. Also in this update:

Added missing species. The new ancient species are added to the search and Obelisk shows up properly in apparel preview.

Each entry now has a link to the official database entry.

Ok so the database has been dead for like over a year because the update script broke. I still couldn't bring myself to nuke it all this time. Then today a kind soul sent me a Kofi and asked whether the database will be kept alive. I checked and fixing the update was actually easy enough. The site lost a lot of visitors but it still gets a few every day. For those of you that do, thanks for sticking around! I plan on doing a few things around the site in the next days and weeks. First up is making sure the data is in good shape and adding info from the official database. After that I'm planning new features! Please look forward to it!

Future of the Item DB

So seeing that the official game database now also lists all custom skins I’m really wondering if it makes sense to keep the Item DB around.

I could scrape the official database and try to build on top of it if there’s anything you’d like to see? Custom item lists? A more powerful search? (Someone already suggested filtering by gathering level for example.) A public API for other people to build cool apps with?

Now that FR has created its own searchable database that works similarly to yours will yours stay available to use or will you stop updating?

Whoops I haven’t checked back in a while so apologies. I’ve been getting a bunch of these questions and the answer is... it depends? I will keep the database online if it’s still useful for people. I guess it comes down to if it’ll still get visitors and if there is functionality not covered by the official page. That said, I’m happy they took it upon themselves to create the game database (which is more detailed than mine would be able to get). It’s a shame that my page was banned all this time though even if they didn’t provide all the info from the beginning. For the people that are interested, there never was any communication between FR and me. I’d like to think that they took some parts of the Item DB as inspiration though...

Hi! I was looking for an "Accent: Maren Warlock" in FR, and there is an information in Kanojo it comes from the "Maren Warlock Crate". I bought and openned one of these crates, but it actually contained the "Skin: Maren Warlock". The actual crate containing the accent I wanted was the "MarenWarlock Crate", so the information is misplaced in Kanojo. Just bringing this to your attention so other people won't have the same problem. Thanks!

Items cleanup

Soo I finally got around to cleaning up a bunch of items that where missing including the bows update. Colors are also updating as we speak. In the future, stuff like that (also things like caption contest results) should be automatically updated more timely.

Next thing I would like to get started on is implementing personal item lists. It's a much requested feature but for the rest of the site it's very outdated tech and I need to think about how to build the new feature while making sure the old stuff still works.

Sometimes clicking on an item seems to bring up an eternal load screen? It seems to be pretty consistently the same items across browsers/devices so idk. Database issue?

If it seems to be item dependent, can you send me the item IDs so I can check? Also yeah, the server is pretty slow :( I plan on moving to a beefier machine soon though so please sit tight~
