Drawing OC from written summary: Nova Azalea This was a bit of art prompt from one of an art meet that I've attended, where we would try and write description of our original character and passed it around for others to have a go at drawing them

Honestly the art meet was way back in… late January, and partly to compensate for the suuuuuper late drawing, and partly to mess around with different ideas I had from reading the writeup, I had a go at drawing different interpretation of the character Thank you to @ ayi_na from the OC trading card server for hosting the meet and the prompt, sorry it took me this long to work on it ^^;;
[Nova Azalea belongs to @ smol_mooncat] [[the drawings were finished at late April but I hadn't upload these until this moment]]

Sebulan Selukis May: Colour Palette Challenge “Do you know what it came from? said Luke. Mayday? It's French, he said. From m'aidez. Help me.” ―The Handmaid’s Tale, by Margaret Atwood [We're doing limited colour palette challenge for this month. Read The Handmaid's Tale recently, and I came across a four colour palette that felt just right to depict the story]

Drawn journal: calling out for Bullshit Jobs at the Kuala Lumpur Reads Attended the event a few weeks back but had to ran off midway because of the rain. Weather was good last Saturday so stayed until the event was concluded. The participants were civil and didn't rush to get their books after photoshoot of the book pile under the tree. Thanks to the organizer for hosting and keeping everything running well!

Drawn journal: some conversations with friends the other day [h/t to Tantan, Noel] I'm trying out a different way of drawing where I pretty much just sketch with minor tidying up before adding on colours (something I picked up from one of Tim Mcburnie recent vid on sketching method). I quite like it, it allows me a faster drawing time and more spontaneous

Drawn journal: result of PhD Viva
To be honest, over a week since the Viva passed, I still find myself in disbelief on how… I actually passed the dissertation for my PhD thesis no way?!
I remember my cousin’s husband, who recalled how, after he was done with his PhD research, was left with a feeling of ‘I can’t believe I actually passed’.
Of course I went into the Viva with plenty of optimism, where I was confident that my research was going to be able to stand up to scrutiny.
And yet, after presenting my research, with the examiners prodding on components of the researches, and offering their feedback and comments on the work, with the process going on so well, and the chairman later presenting the result of my Viva:
PASS
It took me several seconds to really register what it meant. Even when those words were what I was expecting to hear.
...anyway it did took me a while to break this news huh? On one hand I thought that this was a news that would only concerns those who are close to me and those who have been keeping up with my academic career, but... no this is a big milestone for me! If you would allow me to indulge in some cheesiness, could have not make it with all the supports that I've got throughout my research (╥ ω ╥)

I think by now everyone in the know would already heard the news that the pillows have announced their disbandment on the 31st of January.
It was a bit of a shock at first - it seems to come out of nowhere - and after realizing that I had not misread the news, a hint of sadness - that I didn't get the chance to catch their live performance - but after looking back to how my relationship have been with the band… the feeling then morphed into a feeling of bittersweet.
Thinking about it now, I was happy that I managed to work on a small project to celebrate their 35th anniversary last year - even though it was rather something decided on a whim! - as well as another similar sets of illustrations for their 30th anniversary. On one hand I do wish that I had been more active in working on arts to show my love for the band… but on the other hand, I realize it is silly to have that feeling, as if there is some sort of requirement in showing your love for something or someone. I guess that’s more the artist side of me who would always wished that I had more time to draw the things that I want…

I think for those of us who love the band, our love for them is endless and boundless. And even if it does hurt for some of us that their decision to call it quits seem to be rather sudden, we are nevertheless happy that we got the chance to come across their works and have great memories with them.
They have rocked on for 35 years - which is really damn impressive, considering that most of their core lineup remain intact throughout the years. They've made some bangers - in my opinion their four albums run from Please Mr. Lostman up to Happy Bivouac are untouchable, seeing them at their peak - and then some.
I have great memories listening to their music, where it always feel like listening to their music put me in such good spirit - songs like Blues Drive Monster, I Think I Can, Little Busters, Runners High, Crazy Sunshine - feeling like I can take on anything.

And the more slower and somber and introspective songs - the likes of Swanky Street, Bran-new Lovesong, Let’s See If That’s True Or Not, Sayonara Universe - makes me feel that even when things feel so bad that you just feel you want to curl up and cry… things are going to be all right.

I distinctly remember a time when I was cycling through the rain, and I was listening to the Rock stock & too smoking version of Strange Chameleon. And when the outro vocal parts kick in, just when the rain was getting heavier, and I sang along to the part at the top of my voice… It was cathartic.
Listening to Funny Bunny always put a smile on my face. ‘If it’s you, you can do it.’
I've met a lot of their fans over the years, who are one of the best fandom that I have the chance to get to know.
the pillows is up there in my Big 3 of music that have such a deep profound impact to me growing up - the other two being 回路-kairo and Neurosis - and I know that even with my changing in taste and interest in music, there’s always going to be room in my heart for the pillows and these other bands.
At the end of the day, all I can say is: Thank you for the great music over the last 35 years, and thank you to the fans for being one of the best fandom that I have had the pleasure to be in.
Thank you the pillows. Thank you Busters!
