Meet Kartofell! The scare(d)crow.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Within the empty land that rests between points of interest in Echrosia, there is a point where the blizzard calms.
Here rests a farm.
Whether this phenomenon is why the farm was built here, or a result of the farm, is hard to discern.
On the night of the Harvest Moon, the scarecrows rise from their duty of... scaring crows, and instead harvest the crops. This night-long endeavor creates a *lot* of food for the Echrosian populus, even if it has the unfortunate downside of being state-funded and therefore directly fueling the Dictatorship.
But someone needs to watch over the farm for the rest of the year!
Kartofell is, as alluded to earlier, a scarecrow, and also the watcher and resident of this farm. They're a rather anxious individual, though due to their isolated lifestyle it's hard to blame them for being a little nervous when the Dancer swings by.
They don't really have much to do nowadays, quite frankly. They live alone, befriend crows (because they bloody well aren't scaring them), sometimes brew tea they can't actually drink just as a hobby.
However, that isn't to say their life is all dull! The famed Skellington, who we'll absolutely get to describing sometime soon because he's a DOOZY, is their brother after all! Technically. Both of them were raised by the same Necromancer (do not question how a scarecrow is undead, there's definitely no lore here I'm keeping from you <3), therefore making them a part of the family!
Furthermore, Kartofell seems to have some sort of a bond with a rogue necromancer, of sorts. I'm sure this won't ever come up again.
Kartofell only fights the Dancer due to orders from their Necromancer, and is doing double-duty whilst doing so; the other scarecrows are ready to just kill the Dancer, which Kartofell won't allow! This is an honourable dance battle, after all.
They give the Dancer their number. The Dancer does not have a phone. Whoops.

The "first" member of the Revolution... Jacque!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Character, art and description by @interdimensional-warlock-man) Jacque is a revolutionary leader leading no revolution and being completely disconnected from reality. He lives in the woods around an abandoned village close to bordertown, circling around a long-forgotten train station that used to bring out settlers to the borders of Echrosia long before the discovery of necromancy. Stolen a train from said station and uses it to move around and also as the base for his “resistance”. He is assured he is leading a resistance against a dictator, despite not knowing who is currently leading Echrosia, or where they are. His only contact with other living and undead beings is through the army of Rattle. M Bones which he thinks to be the standing army of the country (it isn’t) which he “resists” against by doing train drive-by’s and pelting them with small pebbles. He dances to the tune of disco and doesn’t actually know how to dance, being a sort of tutorial boss. His train is a future hub for all your friends as you join his “revolution”, or rather, he joins yours, as well as a fast travel terminal. He may or may not have strong necromantic abilities which he doesn’t know how to use.

Introducing... Jeni Kate!
Tumblr media
(With art by @summersunrize !)
Tumblr media
(Design and sprite by by @pocketpennytm)
Say hi ho to Jeni Kater, Ice Skater! (they/she) (it's actually Kate)
Jeni is a very chaotic, disorderly goofy human, acting as such to give a little light to the world. She has approximately 5 layers of clothing on at all times (convenient both for obscuring their body, and for keeping out a cold), is 17 years old, and does not own a home. Literally just some guy. Sort of a loner type.
Jeni can be found near practically any body of ice in Echrosia, which are very frequent due to the freezing temperatures there. Lake, pond, or former fountain, she's there. They have a seemingly inordinate amount of fondness for the art of ice skating, entering into a state of zen elegance and grace whenever they glide across the ice. She's an expert. One can even sometimes see them mumbling something to the frosty winds. Strange.
They find a huge amount of joy in this hobby- the ice is different to the outside. The ice is safe. Legally speaking, the Dictatorship only controls the "land" of Echrosia, and nobody ever said anything about the water. So, she exploits this technicality, and gets to skate without the ever present feeling of under the iron grasp of the government's control.
It is freedom. Nobody can take that away from them.
And so, when finally meeting this Dancer in person, one who wishes to free them all- what can they do, apart from challenge him to dance together in mutual escapism. * Writing by Penny and Spudward. "Very happy to finally show them off! I've had them as an idea for almost a year and a half. Skrunkly." - Penny

YOU ARE NOW ENTERING:
Tumblr media
- I'm not quite sure why they allowed me entry.
- Honestly I don't think it's worth questioning.
- I managed to make my way across the border, and that's all that matters...
- Even if I lost my freedom by doing so.
- Ah well.
- I had to start somehow, didn't I?
Echrosia is a dark, frostbitten authoritarian state. Several small towns and villages, loosely connected via pathways and trainlines (for citizens only). The borders are blocked, and all citizens answer to the whims of the Dictator.
The Dictator forces them to work far more than any human reasonably could. This strain and pressure has led the people to uncovering a new way to solve their workers crisis: Necromancy, increasing the size of the workforce exponentially.
This is how it has been for generations upon generations. The spirits of the people are broken, and revolution seems impossible.
But one day, a stranger arrives in this place. Hardened and ready for whatever challenges face them. This stranger has a simple goal:
To free the people of Echrosia... through the power of DANCE!!!

"Sitting close to Echrosia's border, right beyond the gates and guards, rests a ramshackle shanty town... Aptly named Bordertown.
In the early days of Echrosia, this town simply did not exist. Most people found themselves in the capital, or one of the other settlements littered throughout the snow. However, as the population skyrocketed due to the new necrotic citizens, and the quality of life (and unlife) declined, the need for cheap housing quickly became evident.
Bordertown is not a nice place to live. Most houses are built out of salvaged materials: corrugated metals, chunks of wood, garage doors, and other similar things. Even though this land has electricity and technology, this town is mostly lit by candle and lamplight, save for the lucky few connected to the grid.
With these dwellings still not being enough to match the need, and with the undead needing no utilities to thrive, many have found themselves living in storage containers, and lockers, and even in the shattered remains of the homes which couldn't withstand the blizzard.
Bordertown seems like a ghost town when the Dancer first arrives. The citizens aren't too happy to see an outsider, and many don't like going out anyways, so most keep themselves locked away. The dead don't like the howling winds, and the living know that the cold can be deadly... even if this town in particular actually has some of the best weather in Echrosia.
Not that that means much.
Either way, his presence is enough to rouse many of the dwellers from their homes. For better or worse."

First up of many posts, we shall post on our pivotal protagonist, The Dancer!
Tumblr media
(Dancer ref. by @unshulf)
" The Dancer is certainly a strange fellow.
He's always sort of had two left feet, funnily enough. He loves to dance, but ( at least at the start of Echrosia ) isn't actually all that good at it. But that doesn't really matter, that was never the point.
The Dancer is probably Neurodivergent. The way he talks, overlong and phrased strangely, just sort of gives it away.
He definitely started this as just a bit of a joke, "oh I'll challenge the Dictator to a dance battle!", but as soon as he realised he may actually have a chance, he knew it was his duty to stand up for the oppressed Echrosians.
He believes quite greatly in the power of the people and all of that good socialist stuff!
He's not a smart man. :) "
Written by Spudward.
The Dancer is also a femboy.
And also finds himself in a soap opera 25 minutes into Echrosia.
