Students Can Help the Miami Community like Drew Cheskin
A college is a place where students not only learn about their chosen courses, but also can have the opportunity to be a part of great community initiatives, organizations, and much more. Students at the University of Miami are given numerous opportunities to be a part of something big and meaningful. The activities, organizations, and initiatives a student chooses to be a part of tell a lot about that student and of course helps in building their character.
Drew Cheskin, an undergraduate student of the University of Miami on the Dean’s List, is a student that has looked for opportunities to help others. He has been part of some amazing initiatives and organizations.
For example, Drew Cheskin helped organize with an officer of the University of the Miami police department an on-campus two-week blood drive for Oneblood.org. He helped One Bloodcollect blood, plasma, and platelets for the benefit of patients suffering from COVID-19and for children suffering from cancer. His efforts helped OneBloodcollect over 200 units of blood, which could save more than 500 lives.
Drew Cheskin has been a counselor at children’s theatre camp, where he worked with the camp artists' staff, supervised the campers from age 6 to 11, and also assisted them with the rehearsals and production of Madagascar, A Musical Adventure, Jr. He was also a mentor at shake-a-leg Miami summer camp. There he worked with children having neuro typical disabilities. Drew Cheskin was given the responsibility of taking groups of campers to a sandbar in an outrigger boat and he led them in arts and crafts activities.
He also was among only 32 students selected nationally to participate in the HNBF Future Latino Leaders Law Institute where he was a member of the winning team in a mock trial competition that was presided by a Federal District Court Judge.
Drew Cheskin is a strong example for students that they do not have to wait graduate to do good work for their community. Instead, they can be a part of great initiatives, members of important organizations, and help society get better.
