Oh Freddie, Darling
For the 14-18 NOW exhibition piece.
I wanted to gather really intimate responses to a short piece of a letter sent to a soldier in WW1.
“Oh Freddie darling, I do hope it’s nothing bad - but I can’t always go by what you say as I’ve told you before you know I am waiting most anxiously to know all the details”
I sent it out, with no context, and put together a voice recording of the responses - which played on loop. And encouraged people to type out on my typewriter any thoughts, feelings or narratives that came to mind.

“The premise of this video is to shed light on how stressful London can be, and how people like to relax after a hard day. We will focus on men and how they unwind in the privacy of their home. Women are constantly bombarded with information on how they should behave, even when at their most relaxed, and as women we don’t understand why men don’t receive the same treatment.
We feel like men are not represented as all round individuals with depth of character which transcends common stereotypes. It’s almost taboo if they’re in touch with their feminine side. Everyone has a right to self care and deserves to unwind in whatever method suits them.
Looking after yourself is vital, no matter who you are or how you choose to do it.”
