The cat eyes
My sister in law has two cats named Freya and Elsa. Freya is my favorite because she is gentle but also affectionate. She has such beautiful eyes and I decided to capture them while she were sitting at the window.

If I look at Jackson Pollock’s “drip” paintings before taking this class, I will probably say “I can just pour some paints and do the exact same thing and sell it for couple of bucks!”. However, how I see art now versus back then has changed. Pollock went to New York art school and with his artistic soul inside him, his famous artwork is a long process of thinking, trialing, and creating. His style of painting sounds as exactly how he did it: “action painting”. He took action to select the ground as the work “table”, all different types of paints, brushes, and tools are selected purposely. Each movement of the paint is organized as he is spilling the paints on the canvas. The overall look of the “drip” is mesmerizing and astounding with different colors, strings and splashes.
I call this an abstract because it does not represent anything other than some pink, yellow and orange balloons. Balloon are one the thing I was afraid the most in my childhood because of the sound it makes when it bursts. My friends and I then filled it with water and turn them into weapons when we were playing games. It may not mean anything to you, but it is my childhood and I remember about that great time.

David
This is a bronze statue named “David” located in the courtyard. Is it the tallest statue in the collection of Museum of Art Courtyard Sculpture, 16.5 feet tall, that is placed in the center of the courtyard. It has the charcoal grey color represent the nude body a muscular young man. The statue is balanced by the contrapposto, when his body is weighted in the right leg, the left leg is relaxing and posing with the arms. This work of art is enlarged, not the typical life size human statue. Whenever I visit the Ringling Museum, David is always the piece of art that catch my eyes the most because of how big it is, the way he stands and the look on his face. His piercing gaze with the big opened eyes almost frightened me the first time I looked close into his eyes.
Michelangelo Buonarroti is one of the famous artists not in the Renaissance art, but also in the history of art. He is a sculptor, painter and an architect. He took 3 years to finished David. The statue portrayed David holding a sling before the battle to slay Goliath. All the muscular details, the pose, the facial expression, the hair show that Michelangelo is the master in human anatomy. Michelangelo was commissioned to do this work of art for the Opera del Duomo at the Cathedral of Florence; however, it was placed at the entrance to the Palazzo della Signoria due to its symbolic potential of protecting and guarding.
I picked this artwork because I think David was a hero symbol back then in the 15th – 16th century, represent the perfection of artistic sculpture under the hands of a genius artist Michelangelo. It is now still a symbol in the present day, a symbol of art and beauty and power of Sarasota.

1. JOURNALING
Unity and variety: wholeness or individual. Examples are a bag of m&m has a variety of colors, but the shape and sizes are the same, so the bag has unity.
Balance: equilibrium, or everything are at where it should be. Example is a chair has to be designed certain way to balance a weight.
Emphasis and subordination: focus and not focus on something. Examples are putting a size on a clean sliding glass door to emphasize there is a door, or making a glass door looks clean so people cannot tell if there is a door (subordination)
Directional forces: where is the artist trying to show me. Example is street signs, signal signs.
Repetition is when you keep drawing the same thing over and over again that turned into a rhythm. The piano keys have 7 white keys with 2 and 3 sets of black keys (repetition), there are about 5-6 of these sets (rhythm)
Scale is sizing and proportion is the size of a part compare to the whole. Examples are I am looking for a full-sized bedframe to fit in my tiny bedroom so that the bed is proportionated to the room (large scale).

TITIAN, Pieta

3. CONNECTING ART TO YOUR WORLD
Color is part of my life and I am sure it is affecting my life just as everyone. If my top does not match with my bottoms, I cannot get out of my house. My closet is organized in the same hues, that means the bright color pieces have their own sections.
4. ART PROJECT
5. Group 6: PHOTOGRAPHY
The photo on the left is called the V-J Day photo because it captured a scene of a sailor grabbing a nurse to give her a kiss in celebration of Japan surrendered the World War II. Alfred Eisenstaedt- a German American photographer took this picture when he was walking down on the street of Times Square. Alfred chose black and white because it was 1945 when color photography was not that popular, and it also represents the part of the history. The photo on the right in the other is full of different colors and pigments. The yellow taxis are the signature of New York City as well as the big advertisement lights and signs showing another busy but normal in Times Square

Hi everyone, my name is Nhu and one fact about me that nobody knows is I love art since I was small but I ended up with a job in health care that is not relating to art at all. My assigned artwork is number 9: Titian 1538 Venus of Urbino. Oil on canvas; 47” x 65”. Here are the five facts about the Titian and his art work:
1. He is being known as the greatest Venetian artist of the sixteenth century.
2. No one knows who is the women in this art work.
3. It is hung in the duke's wardrobe suit along with other sexualized paintings
4. The dog at the right lower corner represents marital fidelity.
5. Titian took almost two years to complete this art work.
After doing a little bit research about the artist and the Venus of Urbino, the way I think about it when I first looked at it has changed. I have seen a lot more difference in this art. This is a symbolization of the perfect women during that time period, a women that is beautiful, sexy and loyal. It is not just showing a naked women reclining in her room waiting for someone.
ART AND WRITING
This is a photo taken by an iphone of my bedroom lamp. It is obviously used for lighting up my room in the evening or when I need some extra light source to study or doing my makeup. I think it is beautiful and it also serve as a piece of decorating piece in my tiny bedroom. The simplicity and symmetric design of this lamp makes it looks creative than the traditional lamp that I used to have.
WRITING A SELF-POTRAIT
I am a twenty-four-year-old female from Sarasota, Florida. I was born and grew up in a Southeastern Asian country, Vietnam. I like taking pictures, going to the beach, trying new restaurants in town. I work at Sarasota Memorial Hospital. What makes me uniquely me is I don’t have any wisdom teeth which is very rare (that was my two of the dentists I went to told me that).
