The inverse of this is also great. The story starts out with one person looking kind of unhinged and ends with them turning out to be the most reasonable one of the group because everyone else was actually completely deranged from the get-go.
Remember: if you're writing a story about giant robots where piloting the robots is a horrible dehumanising ordeal that leaves everyone who does it super fucked up about it, it's customary to have one specific character who seems totally unaffected and is eventually revealed to be the most fucked up one of all.
