Happy Friday, everyone. It's the (almost) weekend! A lot of you are friends IRL, but I thought I'd take today to introduce myself to a few of you I haven't gotten to meet yet. Hi, I'm Cecelia, an artist/ illustrator from NM, currently living and working just north of Seattle with my husband and our wild little daughter. While, admittedly, I spend most of my playing with and caring for her and her friend, Eli (I work as a nanny to pay the bills), I spend a lot of what I have left woking on my illustrations. I love drawing people, especially young people, because well, they're just naturally cuter than the rest of us. But I am expanding my portfolio to include more animals, patterns, still-lifes, and of course, older folks. I love to experiment with new supplies, but I always find myself coming back to my markers and pens. (I'm a big fan of @sakuraofamerica, btw.) And in my free time, I love to read (LOVING Ken Liu right now), and nerd out on standard nerd stuff (Star-Wars, most anything from Marvel, YA lit and graphic novels). That's me in a nutshell. Thanks for reading! -Cecelia (at Shoreline, Washington)

Well, I think this is ok to announce now. Friends, I've been busy. One of the most exciting projects I've been working on is in partnership with Shoreline City Hall and @kingcountylibrary . I've helped to develop and will be facilitating a Book Discussion Group focusing on racial and social justice. We'll be featuring books by POC and hearing about their worlds in their own words! Some books on our list are: The Hate U Give, the MARCH trilogy, and more! I'm so grateful and excited to dive into this experience and hope you all can join us every second Sunday at Shoreline City Hall beginning in February. (at Shoreline, Washington)

I am LOVING how many of the bios for the girls I'm painting say things like "loves Starwars" or "claims to be a superhero in a past life". Not only does that make my job more fun, but how cool is that little girls feel so free to embrace being anything more than a princess? Or a fairy? (I always wanted to be a fairy growing up) Here's to even more imagination for bigger and better things for our girls! (at Shoreline, Washington)

Sometimes in life, you get really lucky, and you get to do work that you love. This year, kind of on a whim, I decided to offer custom portraits for Christmas. I hardly expected to get as many orders as I have, but I couldn't be more excited about it. | | It's really an honor to be able to be able to create something so special for someone, to be able to hear the stories about the people I'm drawing. This one is by far one of my favorites, a little Resistance Fighter for my friend, Judy. (at Shoreline, Washington)

I started this little guy after our trip to the zoo last Sunday, but this week has been so beyond full I'm not even sure how I made it through. The good news is, I did and I got to finish this little guy this morning; My little ring-tailed lemur.

Ah...sometimes you have this really clear picture of what you're trying to create and it looks nothing like the finished product. I'm not where I want to be as an artist yet. But someday I will be. This is just a pitstop along the way. Anyway, this is part of the series I'm working on currently, resurrecting old instagram posts. This is one of my first dates with my husband, a deserted dance floor at the Seattle Art Museum.

Sometimes you start projects without any idea of when you'll finish it...still worth it.

I flipped through my instagram this morning. I took lots of silly, nerdy, playful pictures. This one was from the night we casually went to a jewelry store so Ryan could get an idea of what kind of engagement ring I might like. That same night he bought me this little dino, Barkley Nelson, at a toy store next door. Barkley modeled the ring Ryan bought for me a month later...
