Virginia by Shannon McNear
Virginia by Shannon McNear is Christian Historical Fiction about the famous early American Lost Colony.
I read an historical account of Virginia Dare as a child and her story has fascinated me since that time. Shannon McNear writes from a Christian perspective with historical facts and weaves a fictional story of what might have been. The characters are portrayed from their own cultural backgrounds. I loved the examples of how many people came to a personal belief in Christ because of the life lived by believers and after the Gospel was shared with them. The complete faithfulness of God is evident in the life of each character, even in the lives of unbelievers. I have enjoyed every book in the series Daughters of the Lost Colony.

Taken by the Shawnee by Sallie Bingham
Taken by the Shawnee by Sallie Bingham is Historical Fiction based on the story of the author’s ancestor Margaret Erskine. Margaret’s story is set in Revolutionary War America in 1779 when Margaret is captured by Shawnee. A wonderful account of survival by a courageous woman, reminiscent of books by Thom and Eckert.
I was intrigued by this story and knew I had to read it when I saw the author’s name that is well known in my hometown of Louisville. If you love early American history this is a wonderful book to read and enjoy.

The Woman in the Painting by Amanda Roberts
The Woman in the Painting by Amanda Roberts is a dual timeline book of  Historical Mystery Fiction. I was drawn to this book after reading the blurb about an intriguing historical mystery in Civil War England.
The characters and their lives are so realistic in both timelines. A heart wrenching story and mystery you’ll not soon forget. I hope to read more books by this author.

The Flower Sisters by Michelle Collins Anderson
The Flower Sisters by Michelle Collins Anderson is Historical Fiction with a mystery in small town America. Why did all these young people die in an explosion? What are the hidden secrets and who knows the truth? I read about this book that is based on a real tragedy in 1928 and knew I had to read it. Life in a small town where everyone knows everything with never to be forgotten entertaining characters. Loved the funeral home business setting although the state of one of the corpses is a bit unbelievable. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Each character had their own special personality and the story had frequent plot surprises.  I hope to read more books by this author. Oh glory, I’ll fly away… Hallelujah!

The Lost Book of Bonn by Brianna Labuskes
The Lost Book of Bonn by Brianna Labuskes is Historical Fiction World War II and its aftermath. Set in a world of unspeakable evil that affects, influences, and destroys the characters' lives.  A librarian works with the Monuments Men to return books to their owner and finds a heart wrenching love story.
A well researched and well written book with realistic characters. This book includes historical information with interesting details of Jewish thoughts and culture. I thought some threads of the story were not quite complete. I think this book is appropriate for adults due to certain subjects.
I thought it unnecessary to accept, agree with, or praise the era of debauchery prior to Nazi regime. Recently, I have noticed some authors feel the need to write approvingly of homosexual behavior. That said, the Nazi response to the immorality of that time was extremely depraved. It’s the old story of a country's downfall. Appropriately this book describes some of the consequences and punishment for the evil crimes committed. The authors' research and notes were informative.

The Disappearance of Astrid Bricard by Natasha Lester
The Disappearance of Astrid Bricard by Natasha Lester is Historical Mystery fiction set in the 20th century fashion world. What happened to a young woman rising to a life of fame and fortune? A story of fashion, the designers, with all the struggles, glamour, family, love, and tragedy in life. While I thought the book was a little slow at the very beginning it quickly became very interesting. I highly recommend this book for the fascinating characters and the mysteries in their lives. The Novelist from Berlin by V.S. Alexander
The Novelist from Berlin by V.S. Alexander is Historical Women's Fiction set in 1920‘s Germany.  Alexander‘s novel is based on the true life story of a novelist in post WWI Germany and her struggles. Real life in Nazi Germany, everyone lives in constant fear, even Hitler. Violent gangs rule, meting out retribution for disobedience of their rules with beatings, murders, and other unjustified punishments. The story of the war in Europe and Germany with all its ugliness and deprivation is told. One evil regime in parts of Germany is replaced by another, causing suffering of the guilty and  innocent alike. Is there any improvement by replacing one socialist government with a different brand of socialism?
I thought how different things might have been if the people of Germany had fought back instead of complying. Would this not be true of any people being oppressed by an evil regime? As always an outstanding thought provoking book by this author.

The Lost Manuscript by Mollie Rushmeyer
The Lost Manuscript by Mollie Rushmeyer is Christian Romance filled with mystery and suspense. I enjoyed the constant adventures and mystery that involved every character. Ellora and Alex’s romance was realistic with deep  love and turmoil early in their marriage. The plot is intriguing and kept me guessing until the end. All the historical details and backstory added to the story. Overall a sweet story with an excellent Christian message of trusting God in everything to bless your life.

Rebecca by Shannon McNear
Rebecca (Daughters of the Lost Colony Book 3) by Shannon McNear is Christian Historical Fiction. I loved this book about Pocahontas, and this interpretation of her life. McNear gives her readers a view of each important character’s thinking processes, growth and feelings. It is difficult to imagine the life the natives and early settlers lead but it is made easier with this book. I especially appreciated the author’s notes, historical details, bibliography and research that complete this book.

Where Ivy Dares to Grow by Marielle Thompson
Where Ivy Dares to Grow by Marielle Thompson is Historical Timeslip Fiction. A place that plays with time and changes lives. A delightful new twist in Time Travel. What might seem to be a ghostly apparition could be a glimpse of a person from another time. Is it imagined, simply a dream or is it real? What future will Saoirse choose? Read this book with a completely surprising ending.

The Poisoner’s Ring by Kelley Armstrong
The Poisoner's Ring, A Rip Through Time Novel by Kelley Armstrong, is the second book in this series. It's a unique blend of Time Travel and Historical Mystery. Mallory is a detective from the 21st century who woke up in the body of a 19th century maid.
I enjoyed the contrasts of Mallory trying to live and work in an earlier century with a modern mind. Mallory and the other characters must make constant allowances for her quirks and thinking. Exciting mysteries with unusual plot twists make all Kelley Armstrong’s books a new favorite. Looking forward to the next books particularly any with her special brand of Time Travel.

Skilletheads by Ashley L. Jones
Skilletheads by Ashley L. Jones is NonFiction and is a Guide to Collecting, care, use, and Restoring Cast-Iron Cookware. When I saw the title I was immediately intrigued. Are there really people who love iron skillets like I do? Wow!  Apparently there are people who actually collect them. While I’m not a collector, I admit to having a few too many iron skillets. I’m not sure I could cook without my iron skillets. Skilletheads is a book for everyone who loves to cook, collectors, antique lovers, history lovers, cast iron reference, and people like me who only cook with cast iron. Loved it!

The Golden Doves by Martha Hall Kelly
The Golden Doves by Martha Hall Kelly is Historical Suspense Fiction during and post World War II. Danger is everywhere, medical experiments, nightmarish secrets, psychological torment and unbelievable evil. Spies who want to find Nazi criminals and bring them to justice. What and whom do these criminals know that will keep them from just punishment?
Historical facts are woven into a fictional story and make it seem very real. Admirable characters that do what they must to survive and bring justice. Evil and darkness involving people and places where you least expect it. Thrills and suspense keep the reader on the edge to the final pages.
The Nazi’s with their evil socialism, control, policies, technology, laws, camps and experiments are the foundation for this book. This book brought to my mind the similarities in 21st Century oppressive actions of most world governments in the last few years.
