❛ no, i’m sorry, ❜ tracy assures, raising a hand in dismissal of the woman’s apology as she hugs her bulging bag of produce closer to her chest. ❛ totally underestimated how crazy i’d go here. see these? ❜ she points to the bushel of apples in her bag. ❛ a freakin’ steal at that booth over there. ❜ just as she points, tracy catches sight of the showdown going on, and she winces in sympathy for the vendor who looks to be at their wit’s end. ❛ waiting on one of them, are ya’? i wouldn’t have the guts to haggle. ❜
The flurry of words that fell from the other woman’s mouth took her by surprise, and she let it wash over her. The woman’s voice was kind— and so was her demeanor. Genuine. Nice— but also the most amount of words she’d actively heard all day. Cass glanced at the bulging bag, noting the shiny red apples almost spilling from its sides, nodding as the other woman spoke. The apples seemed really fresh— she should buy one.
The question took her slightly by surprise and she shook her head and shrugged, a small uptick to her lips. Visible wince, genuine sympathy. “I don’t know them, and I can’t help but watch.”

RACHEL HAD BARELY ever been to a market before in her life. if she was back in new york, there’s no way she would’ve ever been caught dead at one. but this wasn’t new york. she was an entire world away from home and there was no harm in finding out what all the fuss was about, where markets were concerned. and upon her arrival, she does indeed find it all fascinating, though she’s completely out of her element. not quite sure where to go or what to look at. simply weaving in and out of people until she’s managed to catch the attention of a passer by. “don’t apologise, silly. i think i’m the one in the way. i don’t know if i’m coming or going.”
Cassandra bowed her head in acquiescence— the blonde wasn’t wrong, but it was good to be polite. Babs had taught her that, Barbara and Alfred. They had taught her how to people. Steph had taught her how to be young— Tim too. She missed them. Missed them all, and it was hard not knowing where they are. She had no way of contacting them, and it frustrated her like little else. But those thoughts could wait— she needed to take time to just enjoy things. Barbara had taught her that too.
“Do you know what they are selling?” she asked, pointing to the stand to their left. The items looked interesting, but she didn’t actually know what they were— just a lot of purple. It made her miss Steph.

Cass wandered through The Market, her gaze flitting across everything on sale. She didn’t want or need anything here, but it was nice to walk up and down the streets, enjoying the atmosphere. Sometimes she’d buy fresh produce— but today she just wanted to relax. Across the street, at a vintage item booth, two men were haggling— haggling, a word she didn’t use a lot. Haggling sounded harsh on the ears, but it was like watching a dance— little movements betray how they feel and what they want and where the conversation is going and who has the upper hand. Interesting to watch— and the customer was about to get the better end of the deal.
Cass had stopped to watch the duo, only to have to sheepishly move out of the way as someone attempted to walk past her. “Sorry. I was in the way.”

Cass took another bite of her pie ( she came here more once she discovered the pies ) only to pause as she noticed the man beside her— gritted teeth, eyes fighting to stay shut, furrowed brow— pain. He was in pain, some sort of pain, but he had no injury. No blood, no limp, no nothing. He was reacting to something that wasn’t there to her— tilt of the head, voice pointing not at her or the man behind the counter— but it was there to him. She watched as the bottle found its way into the other man’s hands, and she continued to watch before her voice quietly filled the space between them. “Are you— okay?”
open starter // A N Y O N E
an earth shattering explosion. ten new voices calling out to him. eyelids squeezing shut – a poor attempt at getting them out of his head. slamming any loose change and crinkled bills he had stuffed into his ( fitted, leather ) pants onto the counter, klaus planned on shutting them out the only way he knew how. “ be a DEAR and just.. give me the bottle. ” bloodcurdling S C R E A M S rang in his ears. “ DAMN IT. go.. away. ” he urged through gritted teeth at the person standing beside him. although, to the naked eye – nobody was there.

Cassandra wasn’t sure how she’d ended up at the Siren’s Bar today— the Bar was almost always at the bottom of her list, when it came to places she liked to visit. But she was here now, and since she didn’t come here often, perhaps she’d notice something new? Not that that seemed likely. It frustrated her, to be so lost and so alone. There was no mission to work on. It was just her, alone. Unable to contact Tim, or Steph, or Barbara, or Bruce, or Dick, or anybody else. It pulled at insecurities that she didn’t even know she had.
The woman beside her pulled a face that had her smiling quickly into her soda before it disappeared just as quickly. Easy to read, and funny. It was like the face Tim made when you gave him decaf when he expected not decaf. At the question Cass shrugged before gesturing up at the beer menu that had been placed so conveniently on a nearby pillar. There were many other beers to choose from.
lois had spent majority of her time, trying to figure out how and why she had ended up here in this place, completely different to the city lifestyle she was use to. it was like it was a place between being a city and being smallville. deciding to call it a quits for the night, the dark haired woman found herself nursing a beer, perched at the counter of siren’s bar. taking a sip of it, she made a face before placing it down, “i am not sure what is in this beer but it doesn’t taste good,” her nose scrunched up. “is there any beer that tastes like actual beer here?”

She knows what it means to be built into something terrible. The strength it takes to turn away from. She knows what it means to be alone, to be separated from every instinct that raised you.

With one glance, she already knew what they’d just started to think about doing. The fight was over before her feet touched the ground.
But that’s not what impressed me.
These people were scum. Cold-blooded killers. They’d fired at women and children, killing dozens. Batgirl knew this. She also knew how I felt about it. How little I’d have minded any extra…zeal…on her part.
But…there wasn’t any. At her speed it must’ve been difficult, but she did just enough to take them out. No more.
She was…it wouldn’t have looked this way to anyone else, mind you, but she was…
Gentle. Even with them.

⌜ •° ✦ °• — natasha liu bordizzo + she/her + cisfemale + dc .┆this is your stop . welcome to 𝐓𝐖𝐈𝐍𝐑𝐈𝐕𝐄𝐑𝐒 . you must be CASSANDRA CAIN-WAYNE . a little birdie told me you’re looking for THE MARKET , it’s not too far from here and i’m sure your CAPABLE , RESILIENT + COMPASSIONATE self will lead you down the right path . you’ve had TWENTY-FOUR years of experience anyway . what were you saying ? you DO remember HUNTING CRICKET ? oh well, good luck with that ! hey , before you go , has anyone ever told you that you give off a SHY SMILES, CITY LIGHTS, GENTLE TOUCHES, BLOODIED KNUCKLES vibe ? i better get going , enjoy your stay !
from what part of the canon did you take your character from ?
Cass is from the New Earth continuity in the comics, so Flashpoint and the Rebirth stuff hasn’t happened to her.
what gender is your character , what pronouns do they use and what do they identify as sexual / romantic orientation speaking ?
She is cisfemale, and uses she/her pronouns. Her sexual and romantic orientation is up in the air (although canonically she’s only had male interactions up until this point)
anything else you’d like to add ?
let me know if you wanna plot or just talk!
cass may dance, but first and foremost she is a vigilante. she is incredibly skilled in that regard, and she lives and breathes this fight. it is who she is.
she spends her time wandering the spaces and trying to figure out how exactly she got here, and why she can’t seem to contact anybody
she likes watching people, even if she doesn’t necessarily interact with them much, and the Market is such an interesting place for her
she also does like Cozy Corner.
(also here’s the link to her wiki page, its a little long but cohesive: https://dc.fandom.com/wiki/Cassandra_Cain_(New_Earth))
