Former NBFF panelists BriTANicK just being the most awesome, nbd
Catch No Budget Film Fest 2012 panelists Brian McElhaney and Nick Kocher (aka the hilarious comedy duo BriTANicK) in Joss Whedon’s adaptation of Much Ado About Nothing!
It turns out, Whedon was also a fan of theirs. He wrote a post on Whedonesque.com praising BriTANicK’s YouTube videos (which McElhaney told EW “blew our minds”) shortly before beginning production on The Avengers. When Kocher and McElhaney arrived at Whedon’s house for the Much Ado shoot, “My wife and I were fan gushing over them so badly,” the director tells EW. He discovered the duo’s sketches when a friend sent him“A Monologue for Three,” in which McElhaney attempts to remember the closing lines of A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

By Chris Parker It's as though the sad, lamentable death of recorded music was accompanied by a kick-ass wake....
Super interesting read from LA Weekly on the economics of music festivals. Give it a read!

Please vote for us in @GOOD's MyLA2050 Challenge and help us win $100,000 to build a GOOD Los Angeles!
Our idea is to solidify our company as a sustainable arts organization whose focus is on emerging arts professionals. We believe that in LA, there are two types of arts events: the heavily funded, well attended, and smoothly run event geared towards established artists and celebrities; and the unsupported, sparsely attended, poorly managed event for emerging artists. Our mission bridges the two: creating artistic opportunities for thrilling and boundary-pushing artists that will allow them to create on a bigger, better supported level. Now is the time for us to take the next step in our mission.

Brokechella, April 20 at Six01 Studios (601 S. Anderson St.). Cost: $10. Now in its third edition, this downtown festival celebrates underground up-and-comers and affordability. It won't be as polished as its VIP-saturated inspiration, but it will be just as diverse, with selections that include the melodic rock of the Dead Ships, the vampy weirdness of Kera and the Lesbians and a head-trip of a hip-hop artist in NoCanDo.
LA Times Article: Not At Coachella? Don't worry - neither are these shows.
Aw shucks, thanks guys!

Los Angeles, CA. March 20th, 2013: cARTel Collaborative Arts LA, in conjunction with Carlsberg, Bedrock and Jarritos, are proud to announce the line up for the 2013 Arts & Music festival, returning to Six01 Studios in DTLA on April 20th, 2013, doors at 4pm. The one day extravaganza in the spirit of the festival none of us could afford will feature 30 musical acts, the best of Los Angeles street food, festival encompassing art installations, dirt cheap drinks, photo booth, face painting, gift bags, and new for 2013, boutique vendors, “Broke” merchandise, games, and more — all minus the sweltering sun and prohibitive price tag.
This year, Brokechella will host returning acts electronic folk duo yOya, who will be celebrating the launch of their new album, and pop-soul inflicted garage rockers the Dead Ships, as well as eight bands new to the cARTel stage. These Los Angeles staples represent a variety of the city’s most thriving genres. This year, we welcome up and coming post-punk female duo TÜLIPS, rockin’ live wire trio you can’t help but guzzle a beer to, Manhattan Murder Mystery, the bi-polar folk with hints of back alley blues band, Kera & the Lesbians, melodic 60s fuzz rock n rollers, Hello Echo, throwback quartet saturated in vocal harmonies, King Washington, the intellectually demanding yet imminently danceable band taking LA by storm, Body Parts, the 90’s R&B meets New Jack Swing meets the future, electronic artists Mystery Skulls, and the space-funk electro-gospel dance til you can dance no more show stoppers Planet Booty.
Not a group to stay stagnant, cARTel aims to expand Brokechella this year by collaborating with LA music powerhouses Shifty Rhythms and Brownies & Lemonade to curate our second and third stages, which will feature acts including Mann the artist behind “Buzzin” ft 50 Cent, Timbaland produced MC Shawn Crystopher, Vindata, Cy Kosis, and special guests yet to be announced.
This year’s festival wide art installation will focus on the theme of “Strange Paradise.” The festival is still accepting artist submissions. cARTel is also partnering with our 2013 supporters to create themed monoliths that will decorate the space.
BROKECHELLA is a proud recipient of an Awesome Foundation Grant. Not only will funds help support the growth of the festival, but cARTel is actively working with the Foundation to help broaden the opportunities for young producers.
The festival will also feature unique activities for attendees that make an effort to stay green - expect recycling bins that double as art pieces and games plus LED lights and recycled/sustainable materials in all the artwork.
For the next 5 days, tickets are available for $5 as part of our Early Broke Bird special program running March 21-26. After this, general admission will be $10.
Details on additional stages, vendors, activities, happy hour, special deals for staying responsible & sustainable and more will be announced in the coming weeks.
To submit to participate as a visual artist, vendor or volunteer, apply for press credentials, or buy tickets, head to www.Brokechella.com
