The images are inspired by my favorite book Where the Wild Things Are, and the Poor Kingzz Art, Newark’s most prolific graffiti artists. Just as young Max retreats to a fantasy world where even the most frightening beast must bow to his will, bruthas in urban centers like Newark have fought to create spaces beyond the hegemony of white capitalist structures where they can affirm and celebrate their own royalty.
This series is my first attempt to explore the resemblance between the Poor Kingz’ iconic tag and Sendak’s protagonist, which may serve as a springboard for a conversation about consumption, excess and black masculinity in urban America.

Stage one of the interior redesign of my client's maser bedroom suite was getting the closets organized. Since I had two walk-ins AND two guest room closets at my disposal, the strategy was to divide and conquer! What used to be an unmanageable heap of purses shoved into the top of a closet is now an inviting display for the bedroom boutique!
